Overview
Players in Vanilla Minecraft may desire more challenges, as there aren’t many by default. The only main goal of the game is to slay the Ender Dragon, triggering the credits scene. However, using mods to alter the gameplay can introduce many interesting feats to conquer. This is amplified when using modpacks, large collections of modifications, to completely change Minecraft. One of these is known as Seaopolis, an ocean adventure pack with countless custom items, structures, and mobs. Using this on your server allows players to finish a wide range of quests in teams, awarding them useful resources. As you progress forward in-game, the difficulty increases and becomes more complicated to succeed. Whether your desire is to explore the depths of the ocean or go through every mission, there are always activities to do in this modpack. Setting this up is easily done on our panel, but may confuse newcomers to the hosting scene. Once everything is prepared, getting started might be too difficult for some players. Due to this, we’ll show you how to install and play the Seaopolis modpack on your Minecraft server in this Apex Hosting guide.
Summary
The Seaopolis modpack was created by benbenlaw and published on CurseForge in mid-2021. This is for Minecraft Forge 1.16.5, containing over 180 modifications. Its main premise is playing through an underwater adventure with many quests, exploration, and survival aspects.

Getting Started
Upon joining your server, you’ll be inside of a glass sphere with a singular tree in the middle. This is your only source of materials, as there isn’t anything else surrounding your base. Be cautious as you attempt to explore the surface since toxic air exists past 2 blocks in height. Getting started may seem difficult, especially since there isn’t much you can do with some wood logs. Fortunately, you have a Quest Menu that will guide you through various challenges to obtain better materials. Besides this, you also have a Materials & You book that provides you with information about other possible resources to craft or locate. Additionally, you have an item called The One Probe to configure tooltips appearing on your screen, among a map when pressing J on your keyboard. Keeping everything above in mind, we’ll be discussing important tips and tricks in the subsections below to begin your Seaopolis adventure.
Useful Quest Information
Using or viewing Quests involves you accessing them from the top-left corner of your inventory. After selecting this option, you’ll notice tutorial checkmarks that provide you with detailed information about the modpack. These include “kill quests” requiring only melee attacks, chapter challenges awarding special items, and an in-game currency called Sea Bucks for a unique shop.
There are other subtle details too, which can be reviewed by clicking on any of the checkmarks in this area. Once you’ve familiarized yourself with these, hover over the left-hand side and press the Starting Up category to reveal the first steps.
Beginning the Adventure
The first quest to do in your base is collecting Wood Logs from the tree in the middle. This will be a repetitive task, as you’ll need to gather Saplings, Apples, Sticks, and more Wood Planks. After you’ve obtained enough resources, start crafting required materials that’ll complete other quests. For example, making a Crafting Table will open other missions to become available.
Eventually, you’ll have some basic tools for collecting string to create wool for a bed. It’s best to continuously view your Starting Up quests in the menu to gather more information about crafting recipes and tasks. However, it should be noted that some missions require you to drop items in the water for them to transform into other resources.
Using the Sea Shop
After completing some quests, you’ll begin to notice a new item in your inventory. This is called Sea Bucks, which are used for the Sea Shop to obtain special resources. Accessing this is at the very bottom of the Quests Menu where each category is listed. Whether you want sunglasses, basic blocks, or technological materials, this is the area you’ll need to use for them. There are tons of different kinds to choose from, so make sure to save up these sea bucks for later use.
Common Shipwrecks
Players continuing their adventure will naturally explore the ocean that completely surrounds them. This is an excellent, yet dangerous way to obtain new and useful resources. The most common structures to find in the depths are Shipwrecks. These are always going to be at the ocean’s floor, so you’ll need to use Water Bowls to obtain the Water Breathing effect to survive. This lasts for 25 seconds, forcing you to stock up if you’re wanting to explore anywhere.
Possible Loot
There are many chests in these shipwrecks, with some being better than others. For example, sometimes you can find iron ingots or a completely full storage of handy supplies. Otherwise, it’ll be an empty map for you to use in the future. There isn’t any buried treasure unfortunately, as it’s replaced with more valuable items in the wrecked ship.
Unique Structures
Besides hunting for shipwrecks, there are other unique structures to stumble upon. These can include towers on the surface, floating islands, different types of glass domes, ocean monuments, and even special dungeons deep underground. All of these tend to have useful items for players to loot, while others may lack powerful gear to obtain. Despite the emptiness of your surroundings, there are tons of areas to explore and possibly use for your adventure.
Hostile Mobs
However, be cautious of dangerous creatures lurking in the water. These mobs can either be underwater or on the surface, such as a pirate skeleton carrying a TNT block. There are many more, including pillagers, guardians, among standard hostile creatures. It’s encouraged to avoid all contact until you’ve crafted or obtained armor, which tends to be reserved for late-game experiences. Eventually, you’ll encounter some or even a boss from a quest to fight and conquer.
Common Issues
In cases where the modpack isn’t loading on the server, make sure you’ve selected it in the Game File area, generated a new world, then restarted to load everything. This is required for Seaopolis to work properly, but can sometimes still run into problems. It’s encouraged to use a new Server Profile when installing any modpacks on the server, as it creates a separate directory in the FTP panel to store its files. As for client-related problems, simply delete the old profile in Curseforge and reinstall the modpack with its latest version. Otherwise, increase the allocated memory you have for it to run correctly on your computer.
If after loading into your server and the map isn’t an ocean, then double-check you’ve created a new world. This can be done after choosing Seaopolis in the Game File area, in the following prompt after “Change Version”. Alternatively, uploading the world from Singleplayer can be done to get the correct map for the server. Doing either of these should get everything working properly.
Sometimes, players wouldn’t be able to join the Seaopolis server due to missing mods. If this occurred, then make sure to load the modpack from CurseForge so it’s activated in the Minecraft launcher. Otherwise, confirm the IP Address and Port used to make the connection since these must be completely accurate. On rare occasions, a new or old version of the modpack can cause the situation to happen. Simply update Seaopolis on both the server and client to resolve the issue.
