MrCrayfishs Gun Mod

Overview

Choosing weapons in your Vanilla Minecraft server is extremely limited, as there are only swords and axes. There are others, but aren’t traditionally used to fight against hostile mobs or other players. This leads some to search for modifications to introduce more weapon choices or similar features. One of the most popular kinds to use for this capability is called MrCrayfish’s Gun Mod, available on Forge across several game versions. Using this in-game allows players to craft rifles, pistols, miniguns, among other weapons and throwable items. If you’re wanting to create a modern combat server or simply want to have guns in Minecraft, then consider trying out this mod. Setting it up is quickly done on our panel, but may confuse newcomers that aren’t familiar with our system. Due to this, we’ve created this Apex Hosting tutorial to show you how to install and use MrCrayfish’s Gun Mod on your Minecraft server.

How to Download

  1. Navigate to MrCrayfish’s Gun Mod on CurseForge, then click Files near the top.
    MrCrayfish’s Gun Mod CurseForge
  2. Continue to search for your desired Game Version down below.
  3. Once found, press the three vertical dots on the right and click Download File.

  4. Save this file somewhere safe on your computer for later.

Setups using Forge 1.18 and above require the dependency Framework mod to run everything properly. Similarly, Forge 1.16 and below needs Obfuscate to correctly function. Without downloading one of these dependencies, MrCrayfish’s Gun Mod will not work. Simply redo the process for it and continue following the sections below.

Client Installation

Before trying out this mod, you and others need to install Forge with its corresponding game version on the Minecraft launcher. This is required for any mod support, making this absolutely necessary. Once you’ve done this, follow along below to begin using MrCrayfish’s Gun Mod.

  1. Open your Minecraft launcher and click Installations near the top.
    Minecraft Installations
  2. Locate the previously installed Forge profile, then press its Folder icon.
    Minecraft Modded Profile
  3. Find and enter the mods directory from the list in the newly opened window.
Note: If you don’t see this, then create it before continuing onward.
  4. Proceed to drag and drop your downloaded files in this area.

  5. Return to the modded profile and click Play to begin loading everything.

Server Installation

Similar to the client installation, you’ll need to install Forge on the Minecraft server. This is done by selecting it and the correct game version from the Game File area in the main panel. Afterward, restart the server to load all files and follow the instructions below to load the mod.

  1. Head towards your Apex server panel and click FTP File Access near the top left.

Getting Started

MrCrayfish’s Gun Mod Guide

Upon joining the server, players should collect lots of iron and other valuable resources in the world. These materials are used to create a tool station for making guns, attachments, ammo, and throwable utility. We strongly suggest installing JEI to easily view all items and possible crafting recipes. Once you’ve equipped a weapon and collected its ammunition, firing it may involve lots of recoil or first-person camera shaking. Fortunately, throwing attachments on your new gun can provide more control and buffs to help you out in-game. Alternatively, enchanting it with special abilities can achieve the same goal. There’s lots of useful information to understand before using MrCrayfish’s Gun Mod, so review the subsections below to get started.

Gun Workbench

The first step towards building your arsenal is crafting a Workbench to forge guns. This requires 5x Iron Ingots and 3x Light Gray Concrete, making this inexpensive to create. Placing this down reveals a unique 3D texture that can add extra details in your base, while providing a way to obtain weapons, ammo, utility, and attachments.

MrCrayfish’s Gun Mod Workbench Recipe

It’s encouraged to have multiple workbenches just in case, as this is the only viable option to refuel your guns or craft items for it.

MrCrayfish’s Gun Mod Workbench

When you’re ready to make guns or anything else, right-click the Workbench to reveal its GUI menu. There aren’t any recipes for these weapons and items, as all you need is the required materials. For example, Heavy Rifles need 36x Iron Ingots and can be created by pressing Assemble at the top right corner. Additionally, you can customize the weapon by placing colored dyes in its corresponding slot. If you’re wanting to explore other options, then click the arrows and/or categories near the top.

Weapon Types

By default, there are 9 unique guns to make with this modification. These include a Pistol, Shotgun, Rifle, Grenade Launcher, Bazooka, Minigun, Assault Rifle, Machine Pistol, and a Heavy Rifle. All of these will have custom models, but with a grayish finish overlaid on them. Each type will vary in damage, recoil, and possible attachments.

Additionally, most of these guns will only require specific amounts of Iron Ingots, while the Bazooka needs Redstone and Red Dye. Keep this in mind when experimenting with other items from the MrCrayfish’s Gun Mod.

Ammo & Utility

MrCrayfish’s Gun Mod Utility

Rather than using guns to slay your enemies or taunt villagers, you can make Grenades or Flashbangs. These act like you’re about to shoot arrows from bows, meaning you have to hold down right-click while holding it before using its destructive power. On the other hand, if you need more ammo for your strong guns, then crafting Bullets, Advanced Bullets, Shells, or Missiles is required.

Some of these require Iron Nuggets, Gunpowder, Copper Ingots, and/or Gold Nuggets. Remember, everything is done by using the Workbench from before.

Weapon Attachments

Players may feel unsatisfied with their default weapons, so enhancing it with attachments is an option to try out. While holding a gun, press Z on your keyboard to open the Modify Attachments GUI menu. There are many kinds of them, such as Scopes, Silencers, Grips, and Stocks. All of them carry benefits and occasionally downsides that get applied to your gun.

For instance, using a Short Scope decreases your ADS Speed. Others may improve your Recoil or Projectile Spread, depending on the attachment used. We highly recommend trying different kinds out to see what works best for you.

Guns in Action

MrCrayfish’s Gun Mod

As noted previously, shooting any guns will trigger custom animations and movements. For example, an Assault Rifle has high recoil and its model sways when actively firing at a target. Whether you’re destroying an entire village or easily fishing for food, the possibilities are endless. Remember, if it’s too hard for you to accurately shoot a gun, use attachments to increase its abilities. After firing for some time, the durability for it represents how many bullets are in the magazine. Keep this in mind when you’re killing enemies, as you don’t want to run low on ammo. If a gun is too weak for your liking and attachments aren’t doing the job, there’s another option for you.

Enchanting Guns

MrCrayfish’s Gun Mod Enchanting

While gathering tons of experience orbs from your hunts, try placing your gun in an Enchantment Table. This will provide you with three possible abilities to apply on the weapon, ranging in power. Some of these include Quick Hands, Lightweight, and Puncturing. They’re self explanatory for the most part, such as the first ability giving you a faster reload period.

Make sure to have enough Lapis Lazuli too, as enchanting requires it. This is a wonderful way to give yourself an even more damaging and powerful weapon.

Mod Addons

Instead of enjoying the default weapons and utility from MrCrayfish’s Gun Mod, players can choose to install addons. These aren’t officially made by the developer, as they’re created by others. We strongly recommend checking out our Finding Mods guide to help you get the best ones. However, you can start by reviewing the Additional Guns modification since this introduces tons of new weapons.

Combining mods together is a great method for customizing your server, especially if you’re going for modern pvp.

Configuration

If you’re wanting to tweak a few aspects of guns and their behaviors, among other settings, then editing the mod’s configuration is required. This is done through the FTP panel and our built-in file editor, giving you an easier way to make any changes. When you’re ready, follow along below to get started with this process.

  1. Navigate towards your FTP File Access area and login with your credentials.
  2. Continue to locate and enter the config directory from the list.
    Minecraft Forge Config
  3. Find the cgm-common.toml file, then press Edit to the far right of it.
    MrCrayfish’s Gun Mod Config
  4. Make any desired changes and click the Save button at the top.
    MrCrayfish’s Gun Mod Settings
  5. Restart the server from the main panel to apply these edits.

Instead of editing the above configuration, you can enter the following pathway to edit the cgm-server.toml file: …/[world name]/serverconfig. This contains additional settings that affect your specific world, meaning other maps will not have these changes. Keep this in mind while making any tweaks to this file.

Common Issues

Unable to Join Server

Occasionally, some players can’t join the server due to a few reasons. One of them is using an invalid IP Address:Port or Subdomain to make the connection, resulting in failure. Make sure everyone is entering the correct characters to join the server since one mistake can prolong the situation. Additionally, verifying this information can be done by reviewing your main panel near the top. However, another common problem to encounter is having an incorrect launcher configuration. Double check all modifications are stored in the localized mods directory with Forge and its corresponding game version installed too.

My Mod isn’t Working

In some cases, MrCrayfish’s Gun Mod will not work properly on the server. This happens when Forge isn’t selected in the Game File area or its files are incorrectly installed. Double check you have the right setup and that your modifications are uploaded in the mods directory via the FTP panel. Afterward, restart the server and try again to see if that worked. If the situation persists, then consider making a new Server Profile to see if that does the trick. This creates a new directory to store your game files, avoiding any pre-existing file conflict.

The Server is Crashing

If the server itself is crashing and no one can join, then confirm you’ve installed the Framework and Obfuscate dependencies. Remember, the first one is for Forge 1.18+ while the second is for anything below Forge 1.16. Although, another possibility is that you’ve made errors in the configuration file after tweaking it. Ensure you’re keeping the correct format and aren’t entering any syntax errors. Once you’ve made these changes, restart the server to see if that works out.
