Overview

While playing on your Minecraft server with friends, some players may want more entertainment. This tends to involve using plugins, introducing you and others to a wide variety of features. One of these is called Brewery, allowing players to create many different drinks. The majority of them are alcoholic beverages that apply status effects on characters, simulating being drunk. The player’s vision gets distorted, sometimes being encased in darkness as you stumble around. If you’ve consumed too many drinks, then your chat messages will become unrecognizable. This is a wonderful way to have fun with others on your Minecraft server, especially when there’s plenty of other interesting content from this plugin. For example, if you log off while being drunk in-game, then your character may not find their way to join. This is all for entertainment purposes, but Brewery allows you to completely customize the experience. Whether you want to disable some possible problematic features or make more beverages, you have plenty of options. As for setting up the plugin, our panel offers an easy-to-use interface for this process. However, newcomers to the scene may be unfamiliar with our system. Due to this, we’ve created this Apex Hosting tutorial to show you how to install and use Brewery on your Minecraft server.

How to Download

  1. Navigate to the Brewery plugin on Spigot’s website.
  2. At the top right corner, press the Download Now button.

  3. Save this file somewhere easily accessible on your computer.

Server Installation

Before setting up your plugin, the server must have Spigot or Paper installed on the panel. This process is done by selecting either of them from the Game File area, then restarting to generate its necessary files. Once you’re finished with this, follow along below to start playing with Brewery in Minecraft.

  1. Head towards your Apex server panel and click FTP File Access near the top left.

Getting Started

Brewery Plugin Guide

After joining the server, players will need to collect some basic and farming resources to start making drinks. However, building custom barrels and brewing stands to age or distill your alcohol is required to get the best beverages in Minecraft. The amount of time determines how much your drink packs a punch for players to enjoy, which might be too long for some. Fortunately, this plugin allows you to have full control over everything. This means you can tweak any beverage’s settings or create your own, while also editing chat messages, recipes, and other aspects. We’re going to break down what you need to know before getting started with the Brewery plugin in Minecraft from the subsections below. While you study this, keep in mind that there’s an official wiki for extra information.

Commands

By default, players cannot create alcoholic beverages due to the plugin’s design. Due to this, you’ll want to either become an operator or assign permission nodes to users/groups. The latter is done by using LuckPerms or another similar plugin to manage them properly. This allows you to make all players have the ability to create barrels, make drinks, and other important features. We’ve created a short list of valuable ones to try out down below. However, feel free to review the permission wiki to learn about all of them.

CommandPermissionDescription
/brew info [player]brewery.cmd.infoReveals information about your own drunkenness.
/brew [player] [drunkenness] [quality]brewery.cmd.playerControls a player’s drunkenness and quality of consumed alcohol.
/brew create [drink] [quality]brewery.cmd.createInstantly create a specific drink with any quality level.
/brew pukebrewery.cmd.pukeForcibly make your character puke in-game.
/brew wakeupbrewery.wakeupAllows you to create wakeup points in the world.
N/Abrewery.userAll basic abilities to create drinks, barrels, and use other features from the plugin.
N/Abrewery.modProvides the player with all wakeup permissions and the ability to bypass the login prevention after drinking too much.
N/Abrewery.adminAccess to all administrative commands and permissions.

Gathering Supplies

Minecraft Brewery Resources

Most of the resources required to get started are fairly common in the world, but can be tedious to obtain. For example, gathering lots of apples or cocoa beans involves you traveling to specific biomes and spending time farming these items. Other materials such as blaze powder for distilling alcohol forces you to enter the Nether dimension, so some of these resources may take time to get.

Although, the vast majority of these items are readily available for players to gather.

Brewing Drinks

Once you’ve obtained lots of resources, craft and place down a cauldron to fill it up with water. This serves as the foundation for making drinks, as you need to add or combine materials inside. Although, you need to place a fire underneath it for the boiling process. We strongly recommend reviewing the recipe wiki for this plugin to gain a better understanding of what’s possible.

For instance, right-clicking the cauldron with wheat allows you to make beer. After doing this, new particle effects will appear over it. However, you need to right-click the block with a clock to begin the boiling process.

Brewery Minecraft

Once enough time has passed, simply right-click the cauldron with empty glass bottles to obtain your new beverage. These starter drinks are technically consumable, but the job isn’t finished yet. Some recipes require you to distill or age the alcohol, leading to a higher quality level. The longer you do this, the more alcohol potential your beverage shows. Remember, some drinks may need a specific process for players to enjoy it.

Whether you distill or age your alcohol, it’ll always result in some drinkable item. Improperly doing this results in lower quality beverages, leading to more downsides to consuming it.

Distilling

If your recipe needs distilling, then make sure to have a brewing stand nearby. Power this up with blaze powder, then use glowstone for the main item slot. Afterward, place your drinks inside and wait until it finishes. This process can take several minutes, so keep this in mind when doing it. Once you’re completed, a new beverage will appear for you to enjoy. However, repeating this process can increase its potential.

Alochol Minecraft

Overdoing it may not be ideal either, so you have to master the art of brewing drinks in Minecraft. Alternatively, you can settle for the first time distilled drink to see if you like it.

Aging

Brewery Plugin Barrels

Rather than distilling, players can place down wooden stairs to make a custom barrel. Start off by putting them upside down, then normally on top to do this correctly. Afterward, attach a sign at the bottom with the word “Barrel” somewhere on it. This should send a chat message to your character signifying you successfully done it. When you’re at this point, right-click the sign to open its GUI menu for you to transfer drinks inside of it.

This part of the process will take the longest, as you must wait a long time before your beverages transform into other types or a higher quality level.

Drunk Effects

After successfully making your drinks, try them out in-game to see its effects. There’s some special effects for specific beverages, while also having some universal ones. For example, reduced visibility is always applied at first and goes away shortly afterward. Another one is becoming nauseated or becoming poisoned. However, the amount of time they last depends on how much you drink and its quality level.

Drunk Effects Minecraft

Players can see how drunk they are by gauging the bar and star icons near your hotbar. After too many beverages are consumed, you’ll be unable to drink more. This is to keep you alive, while also limiting the amount of alcohol being used.

Drunk Chat Minecraft

Another interesting effect after drinking too much is when players send messages in chat. Depending on how many beverages you consumed, it can completely become unrecognizable to others.

For example, typing “Can you read this?!” turns into incomprehensible words. This is an extremely fun feature from the Brewery plugin, as anyone can instantly know when you’re drunk. On top of this, stumbling all over the place after having a few is another indicator.

While in a drunken state and you log off the Minecraft server, sometimes you can’t join back. This may be frustrating to some, but offers an entertaining disconnect message. Your character is too drunk and can’t find their way back to the world, but after a few attempts you’ll join. Luckily, this feature can be disabled in the configuration file of the plugin if you find it too problematic for the server.

Too Drunk Minecraft

Alternatively, you can customize the disconnect message to say anything you want. This offers a lot of opportunities to have a unique experience in the game.

Types of Drinks

Alcohol Drinks Minecraft

As for the different types of beverages to consume in your Minecraft world, there’s countless of them. However, some of them aren’t based on alcohol. For example, coffee or potato soup are options to choose from in the server instead of others. These types of drinks grant the player with more beneficial status effects compared to alcoholic beverages. Although, the majority of them such as vodka, rum, wine and others are the main purpose of this plugin. If you’re unhappy with some, then tweaking their settings in the config file is always an option.

Custom Beverages

Minecraft Drinking

Following this, creating a custom drink can allow you to have custom commands, chat messages, effects, and so much more. This can be an interesting feature on your Minecraft server, especially if you get creative with possibilities. We’ll discuss this process in more detail later on in this tutorial, as it requires you to understand how to access and edit the main Brewery file.

Fortunately, the developers already created an example beverage that you can use as a template for others.

Wakeup Points

When you’ve consumed too much alcohol and rejoined the server, your character may have woken up somewhere else in the world. This is only possible if players with permissions create “wakeup points” in-game. Otherwise, the player can be sent back to their home if you have EssentialsX or another plugin that offers a similar mechanic. This is an important feature to have, as some users will excessively drink alcohol and require a place to rest.

Brewery Wakeup Points

The effects from drinking are still applied after rejoining, but slightly reduced depending on the amount of time that passed.

Plugin Configuration

As for configuring the plugin to make any adjustments, you’ll need to access the main config.yml file in the FTP panel. Our system has a built-in editor for you to quickly make changes, meaning no downloads or external programs are required. This document contains all the data for your beverages and other features from the plugin, such as toggling if puking is available for players to try in-game. Around 420 lines in the file, you’ll notice a custom drink to tweak. This will give you the power to make more of them if you want, so be sure to copy and paste accordingly, then edit anything you want for this process. Remember, the Brewery plugin has an official wiki that gives you more information about all these features. We highly recommend reviewing it if you’re confused about the process, but follow along below to learn how to start it.

  1. Navigate to the FTP File Access area and login with your credentials accordingly.
  2. Proceed to enter the following directory pathway: …/plugins/Brewery
    Brewery Config Folder
  3. Afterward, locate and press Edit on the right for the config.yml file.
    Brewery Plugin Config
  4. Make any necessary changes in the editor, then click Save at the top.
    Brewery Plugin Settings
  5. Return to the main panel and Restart the server to apply these edits.

Common Issues

Unable to Brew Drinks

While trying to make beverages on your Minecraft server and you notice that it’s impossible, then make sure you have the correct permission nodes assigned to your account or group. Remember, this is done by using LuckPerms or another managing plugin for them. Alternatively, becoming an operator gives you complete control and access to everything. Regardless of what you choose, it’s important to have permissions for the Brewery plugin to get started with it. Once you’ve done this, try again with the cauldron to see if that works. However, you have to put a fire beneath it for anything to successfully work. If everything seems to be functioning properly, then you should be able to use custom barrels and brewing stands accordingly. Although, the situation may persist if the plugin itself isn’t working correctly on the server.

Inability to Use Commands

If you’re wondering why commands aren’t working with the correct permissions assigned on your account, then navigate to the main server panel. Afterward, double check you’ve selected Spigot, Paper, Purpur, or other similar types that support plugins. This is extremely important, as without doing this nothing will work. However, incorrectly installing Brewery can also result in the same situation. Make sure you’re uploading the file in the plugins folder from the FTP panel and waiting for it to reach 100%, then restart the server to begin loading it. After doing all of this, you should be able to use commands properly with their corresponding arguments in-chat.

Cannot Create Custom Drinks

Tweaking the configuration file to make custom beverages requires you to follow an exact format. Remember, we advised you to copy and paste the example drink for you to quickly make others. If you’ve mistakenly removed specific characters or values, then it may break the file and result in failure. After doing this, make sure to click Save on the file editor near the top and restart the server from the main panel. This will load all your changes in the game, which hopefully will function accordingly.
