Overview

Players looking for challenges in Minecraft may find themselves facing off the Ender Dragon multiple times or fighting Withers with friends. These activities can become repetitive and unfulfilling for some users, as they may desire for new difficulties in their beloved game. Fortunately, using Forge or Fabric mods can introduce a wide variety of features to Minecraft. This means you can implement extra challenges in your gameplay to have fun. One of these mods is known as Mutant Monsters, allowing players to encounter mutated monsters in the world for an intense battle. Alternatively, brew a unique potion to transform normal creatures into terrifying mobs. After defeating these mutants, you’ll be rewarded with a collectible item that has special powers. Use them to help you navigate the world or slay other monsters. This is a wonderful mod to play with friends, but newcomers to the scene may be unfamiliar with the setup process. Due to this, we’ve created this Apex Hosting guide to show you how to install and use the Mutant Monsters mod in your Minecraft server.
 

How to Download

1. Navigate to Mutant Monsters on CurseForge, then click Files near the top.
   
2. Locate your desired Game Version and Mod Loader in the list below.
3. Once found, press the three vertical dots and click Download File.
   
4. Save this file somewhere easily accessible on your computer for later.
5. Repeat this process for the Puzzles Lib dependency mod, as it’s required.
   Fabric Only: Do the same for Fabric API and Forge Config API Port.

Client Installation

Before doing anything, you and others alike must install Forge or Fabric on the Minecraft launcher. This is required to support mods, making this absolutely necessary. After you’ve done this, follow along below to install Mutant Monsters on your client.

1. Open your Minecraft launcher and click Installations at the top of your screen.
   
2. Locate your previously installed Forge or Fabric profile, then press its Folder icon.
   
3. In the newly opened window, find and enter the mods directory from the list.
   Note: If you don’t see this, then create it before proceeding.
4. While inside of this area, drag and drop the downloaded files accordingly.
   
5. Return to the launcher and click Play on your modded profile to load everything.

Server Installation

Similarly, you must set up Forge or Fabric on the Minecraft server before playing with mods. This is accomplished by selecting your desired loader with its corresponding version in the Game File area, then restarting to generate its required files. Once you’ve done this, follow the steps below to install Mutant Monsters on the server.

1. Head towards your Apex server panel and click FTP File Access near the top left.
   
2. Type your Password in the text box and press the Login button to gain access.
   
3. Find and enter the mods directory, then at the top left corner click Upload.
4. Afterward, drag and drop the downloaded files into the respective area.
   
5. Wait for them to reach 100%, then return to the main panel and Restart the server.

Getting Started

Whether you begin a new world or continue on your existing one, there’ll be mutated monsters naturally spawning after joining the server. It’s strongly recommended to craft and enchant powerful equipment before trying to hunt down these creatures. Remember, they aren’t your normal mobs in Minecraft since they’ve become mini-bosses. In other words, expect a fierce battle with unique powers being cast upon you. After slaying one, a special item will drop that can be used for brewing a particular potion. This helps transform other normal monsters into mutated versions, meaning you don’t have to naturally find them in the Minecraft world. Alternatively, using operator permissions or cheats allows you to use /summon to forcibly spawn them in-game. If you’re wanting to avoid using these features, then consider installing JEI to easily view all new items from the Mutant Monsters mod. Besides this, we’ll be reviewing everything you need to know about this in the subsections below to get started on a new adventure in Minecraft.
 

Mutant Types

Before jumping into the mod, you’ll want to understand its many mutant creatures. This helps you learn more about each type in preparation for the fights. There’s a total of six boss mobs to consider, ranging from zombies to spider pigs. All of them will have unique abilities and powers to use against players in-game. Keep this in mind when trying to battle any mutant monster.
 

Zombie

Starting off with our first mutated creature, zombies are now large bulky hulk-like monsters with strong fists. They’ll shake the ground around you, inflicting damage during their reign. Occasionally, the mutant zombie will fling you into the sky and land another strike mid-air. This means there’s a constant beratement of attacks, scaring away most players attempting to slay the beast. If this isn’t enough of a challenge, the creature’s amount of health is staggering.

Skeleton

Normal skeletons love to frustrate players with their constant shooting, which is no exception with its mutant variant. This boss enjoys slamming you far away, then using its bow to land a powerful hit. If you’re too close, the monster will swing its fist until you’re far enough away. In some cases, it’ll jump to high-ground for an advantage in the fight. Be cautious as you initiate a battle with this mutated skeleton, meaning you’ll want to have bows ready at any time.

Creeper

Rather than exploding upon contact, mutated creepers will sprint at you and land several melee attacks. Every so often, they’ll summon a small group of tiny minions to blow up near players. If you try to run away, this monster’s speed won’t let you get too far. This means you’ll be forced to constantly attack it and avoid explosions until it’s defeated. We strongly encourage you to get to the high ground and use long-range weapons, as the mutated creeper cannot jump.

Enderman

By far one of the most terrifying creatures of them all, a mutated enderman will cast blindness upon its prey. Afterward, a large group of transparent normal monsters will constantly attack you. Later on, the mutant will start dealing damage itself and even fling you into the air at times. Running away isn’t an option with its teleporting ability, so make sure to have golden apples on hand. Fortunately, these monsters aren’t hostile…until provoked otherwise.

Snow Golem

Unlike other mutants on our list, snow golems are defensive creatures that help players with their battles. Otherwise, these mobs can be used as protection for structures. They’ll throw large ice blocks at any hostile foes, dealing lots of damage per hit. If players try to slay this mutated snow golem, it won’t attack or attempt any maneuvers to get away. This makes it only for defensive purposes, which is a nice change of pace in the Mutant Monsters mod for Minecraft.

Spider Pig

The last mutant from the mod is known as a spider pig, which is an obvious combination of the two. This creature isn’t hostile at first, but when angered will quickly launch attacks. Expect cobwebs to appear out of nowhere, slowing you down all while taking damage from its leaping melee strikes. Luckily, the amount of health this mutated spider pig has is nothing compared to other monsters. This means you can easily slay it by yourself and almost instantly with friends.

Custom Items

After slaying a few mutant monsters in Minecraft, there’ll be unique item drops. These include Creeper Minion Tracker, Creeper Shard, Endersoul Hand, Hulk Hammer, Mutant Skeleton Armor, and Chemical X Potions. The last one will be discussed later on, as it plays an important role in the game. As for the other items, they all have special abilities for players to use. Whether it’s a large explosion or status effects, there’s a lot of potential with them.

Special Abilities

One of the first items to consider using is a Creeper Shard, which is only meant for blasting everything around you. Unlike normal explosions from the monster, this provides you with almost all resources. In other words, you’ll get tons of blocks and other items after using it in-game. This can act as a way to effectively mine for valuables in cave systems. Alternatively, it’s a great way to raid bases or defend yourself in the midst of battle.

If you’re wanting a weapon that also helps navigate the environment around you, then consider using an Endersoul Hand. This is a mutant enderman’s claw, offering powerful blows to enemies and the ability to teleport to your desired location. Whether you’re fighting bosses or simply trying to reach the high ground, these claws come in handy. Although, don’t expect to constantly use it in your Minecraft world since there’s a minor cooldown.

Another powerful weapon to try out in Minecraft is the Hulk Hammer, dropped by the mutant zombie. This deals a lot of damage with every hit, while also providing a unique long-range attack. Simply right-click while looking at an object to use it in-game, but there’s also a cooldown with this item. The reach is limited, so you’ll still have to be relatively close while fighting enemies. Fortunately, there’s a small amount of knockback with this ability.

Mob Transformation

Instead of hunting for mutants in Minecraft, consider transforming normal mobs into them. This process involves you creating Chemical X Potions. Players must brew Gunpowder, Glowstone, then either Creeper Shard, Endersoul Hand, Hulk Hammer, or Mutant Skeleton Skull to successfully create it. This means they’ll only come out as throwable potions, which makes sense for its purposes. Keep this information handy when trying to brew these potions.

Once you’ve made a few potions, throw them at any applicable creature to start the transformation process. However, this might take you a couple of attempts before a successful one. In other words, have a healthy amount of potions in your inventory to accomplish this goal. As for spider pigs, you’ll need to feed a normal pig a fermented spider eye before throwing the chemical on them. Otherwise, it’ll simply explode like other creatures in Minecraft.

Configuration

If you’re unhappy with your current gameplay experience with the Mutant Monsters mod for Minecraft, then consider tweaking its configuration. This is located in the FTP File Access area of your main server panel, accessible through the file editor. The exact settings include mutant conversions and spawn rates for them. Follow the steps below to begin editing your mod’s config file, but keep in mind that Fabric or older versions of Mutant Monsters store this in the …/[world]/serverconfig directory.

1. Navigate to the FTP File Access area and use your login credentials accordingly.
2. Afterward, locate and enter the config directory from the list.
   
3. Proceed to click Edit to the right of mutantmonsters-common.toml once found.
   
4. Make your desired changes in the editor, then press the Save button at the top.
   
5. Return to the main panel and Restart the server to apply these edits.

Common Issues

In cases where you’re unable to join the Minecraft server, make sure that it’s turned on in the panel. Additionally, check if you’ve configured everything correctly. This includes confirming if Forge or Fabric is selected in the Game File area with your corresponding version and if the downloaded files are stored in the mods directory from the FTP File Access area. Remember, you must have all dependencies uploaded in this folder before you can play with Mutant Monsters in Minecraft. Similarly, check for this configuration on your client if you have trouble launching the game. This means that you’re using Forge or Fabric to startup with all files correctly transferred in the local mods directory. Failing to do this will result in the same situation, so make sure everything is properly installed and used.

Occasionally, server owners might notice that their configuration changes aren’t being used properly in-game. This tends to happen if the file breaks and gets reset to default settings. We encourage you to make sure there are no syntax errors, such as missing required characters like brackets, equal signs, or spaces. Additionally, confirm there are no typos or misspelled words/values in your file. Afterward, simply click the Save button at the top left corner and Restart the server to see if that works. If the situation persists, we recommend reaching out to our Support Team for further assistance.

If your game crashes while playing around with Mutant Monsters, then we strongly suggest allocating more memory to your client. This tends to resolve the issue without further instances. However, using other versions or builds of the mod can also help fix the problem. As for any crashes on the server, this can happen if too many mutant creatures are summoned by the player(s).
