Chance Cubes Minecraft Mod

Overview
Exploring your Vanilla Minecraft world can involve lots of fun, especially with friends. Whether you’re finding large caves or stumbling on naturally generated structures, there are many adventures to try out. However, some players may want to spice up their gameplay with more randomness. This is achieved through using modifications, addons that introduce new features to Minecraft. One of these is called Chance Cubes, a block that spawns throughout the world for anyone to test their luck. Upon breaking this, a random event will appear that may be beneficial or harmful. For example, players can sometimes find rare minerals or get killed by a powerful creeper. Using this on your server can be extremely entertaining, as anything can happen. As for setting it up, the process is straightforward and easy to understand. However, some newcomers to the hosting scene may be unfamiliar with modding. Due to this, we’ve created this Apex Hosting guide to show you how to install and use Chance Cubes on your Minecraft server.

Important: Chance Cube requires a new world for everything to work properly.
Getting Started
Upon joining the server, there may not be any noticeable differences from default Minecraft. This is until players stumble on a dice-like cube in the world, which can be underground or on the surface. It’ll be challenging to hunt one of these down, but can also be found in lootable chests from structures. These may include villages, ruined portals, mineshafts, and more. Once a cube is found, breaking it might reveal dangers or valuable treasures. Be cautious as you do this, especially since a few random events can explode your base. We’ll break down what you and others can expect with Chance Cube in Minecraft. However, you may want to consider installing the JEI modification to see all crafting recipes.
Cube Generation
As previously mentioned, chance cubes can be found on the surface, underground, or in chests. Its generation mimics ores, meaning they can be randomly found in caves like iron or diamonds. However, other times they can appear to be out of place in forests, deserts, and other biomes. This block doesn’t generate in groups since only one can be found per chunk. Although, exploring underneath your world is the best way to find them since four can spawn instead. This method is highly recommended, as running around above isn’t ideal.
As for finding them in chests, it’s only one per container. This means locating villages, mineshafts, mansions, and other structures is best since that’ll give you more opportunities to hunt them down. Make sure to never ignore these loot chests, as a chance cube might be waiting for you. Otherwise, you can craft them with 8x Lapis Lazuli and 1x Lapis Lazuli Block.
Random Rewards
Once you’ve found a chance cube, simply break it to find out what’s inside. Remember, there can be a wide variety of events that’ll randomly appear once you’ve broken the block. Whether you get rare minerals or an explosive creeper, anything can happen. These are also configurable in the mod’s settings, which we’ll discuss later on. Besides this, you may want to avoid breaking cubes near or inside your base due to the risks.
Instead of items or creatures, the world around you may change too. This can either be different colored wool, a bunch of random blocks, and more. If you’re lucky enough, perhaps diamond ore can appear too. Otherwise, you may get unlucky and find yourself with bedrock instead. This feature reinforces the idea to avoid breaking chance cubes near anything you hold dear, as it can grief anything.
Unique Pendants
There are other items with this modification too, which increases your chances of getting lucky while breaking a cube. The first one can be crafted with Gold, Lapis Lazuli, and Diamond Blocks, providing players with a pendant. Afterward, using the item you just created with the same recipe can upgrade it. Make sure to replace the diamond block with your pendant in the crafting table for this process. There are three variants of them, while others are only obtainable through operator permissions.
There’s a durability for each pendant, meaning it will break after enough uses. Players only need to have it in their inventory, as it’s not required to break the cube while holding it. Remember, bad events can still occur even with these items. Make sure to use cubes away from any base, such as in the wilderness. Although, you cannot control where these spawn so it may be difficult.
Giant Cubes
An even rarer type of cube to find in your Minecraft world is a Giant version, containing more powerful random events. Whether you get rained on by diamonds or gravity falls apart, there’s no telling what these blocks can do in-game. Unlike their counterparts, these giant cubes cannot be crafted. This makes them extremely challenging to find in the server, so keep an eye out for them. However, you may not want to risk breaking it due to the disaster that can unfold.
Configuration
If you’re wanting to control chance cube spawns or anything else, then editing its main configuration is required. There’s also reward options that you can customize, leading to a personalized experience on the server. The steps below show you how to edit and apply any desired changes you want.
- Navigate to the
FTP File Access
area and login with your password. - Enter the following pathway:
…/config/chancecubes
- Once there, press
Edit
on the chancecubes-server.toml file to reveal its contents. - Make any desired changes, then click
Save
at the top. - Return to the main panel and
Restart
the server to apply the edits. - (Optional) Do the same process for other files in this area if you want.
Common Issues
In cases where you’re unable to join the server, ensure you’ve successfully installed Chance Cube on your Minecraft server and launcher. This requires you to transfer the file into the mods directory for both of them. However, Forge must be already installed on both the server and launcher for this to work properly. Once you’ve done this, make sure to restart and try again. If the situation persists, then double check you’re entering the correct IP Address:Port or Subdomain for the connection. This information can be verified on the main server panel, near the top. On rare occasions, using the Direct Connect method in-game to join is the best way for this process.
Remember, chance cubes tend to be rare in all Minecraft worlds. The best way to find them is locating loot chests in structures or stumbling on them in caves. However, if you’re completely unable to obtain any cubes, then confirm you’ve generated a new world. This is required for the blocks to properly spawn in-game, which can be frustrating if you already have progress made. However, if the situation persists after doing this, it could mean the modification isn’t correctly installed.
