Modded Minecraft has always been special to me. The way it can allow you to invest yourself in an entirely new experience compared to the familiar albeit stale Vanilla gameplay is amazing. Whether I want to hone my magical power in a fantasy setting, build mech suits and wage war with advanced technology, or just farm with a larger assortment of foods, there is something for everyone. However, not all modpacks are created equal. The quality of mods, optimization of the modpack, and the entertainment value are all extremely important when deciding what modpack you may want to play. Today, we’re going to go over the ten best mod packs determined by yours truly. This list is entirely subjective, and I haven’t played every single modpack, so cut me some slack. With that said, let’s begin.
Voltz is a modpack centered around electricity, machinery, and weaponry fit for North Korea. Nukes, grenades, mech suits, solar panels, and laser guided missiles compose an awesome classic modpack that is sure to change how you think about warfare in Minecraft. My favorite item is the Dark Matter missile, which literally forms a black hole. There’s also a Red Matter missile, but it’s not as cool for no reason in particular.
Real life Craft or Realism Craft is a hardcore survival modpack made to push your ability to not die to the absolute limit. This modpack is made to capture the presence of an rpg that doesn’t hold your hand, and runs on the idea that you’re going to die a lot before you start understanding things. Dragons, monsters, hydration mechanics, and more make your life a living hell. But then again, that makes your survival all the more fulfilling.
A 1:1 recreation of Pokemon and all of its mechanics. This mod includes most if not all of the Pokemon in Nintendo’s hit franchise with high quality models, awesome attacks, a custom GUI, working battling, tons of items, and more. My favorite aspect has to be how you acquire legendary pokemon, with all of them having different requirements. This mod is truly a labor of love.
Lapito’s Galacticraft runs off of one of the most creative and unique mods in all of Minecraft, Galacticraft. Using advanced rocket propulsion, you can launch yourself to the moon and other planets, all of which have their own different gravities, atmospheres, and terrain generation. The creation of a rocket is extremely fulfilling and rewarding, so this modpack gets an A+ in my book.
If you’ve ever played modded Minecraft back in the day, you’ll recognize this modpack. Tekkit is one of the most popular modpacks, and for good reason. Albeit outdated, this modpack is the progenitor of almost all technologically based automation modpacks. With its awesome pipe systems and advanced machinery, Tekkit surely makes up for its older version with its pristine choice in mods.
Roguelike Adventures and Dungeons is a fairly simple modpack, but it is extremely effective in its execution. The basic premise is to focus on exploration, adventure, and roguelike dungeon raiding. There are also multiple mods that add new dimensions with their own challenges like boss fights and such. All around, a welcome change from many of the technology based mods.
As its namesake suggests, All the Mods 6 aims to pour as many mods as it can into your Minecraft world. This is supposed to be the ultimate modded experience, with quite literally something for everyone. Unfortunately, due to Minecraft’s limitations, you can’t just have a thousand mods smushed into your game, so rather than include literally every mod, this modpack serves as a summary of modded Minecraft. With technology and magic alike, you’re sure to not get bored of this one.
Meant to serve as a Fabric based alternative to All the Mods 6, All of Fabric 4 attempts to pour as many Fabric mods as it can into your Minecraft world. This basically accomplishes the same thing, but for another modding platform. The mods are different, and the experience is distinctly different, so it is still a great modpack.
Better Minecraft is a modpack that sets out to be what people envision Minecraft 2 would look like, or whatever Minecraft seems to be lacking. Rather than offering a gameplay experience driven by a certain playstyle, this modpack wants to build upon the game mechanics of Vanilla. This includes new structures, dimensions, hatching the dragon egg, and even the Caves and Cliffs update!
One of the most community driven and focused modpacks in all of history, MC Eternal offers over 750 quests with its mod library that is hand picked for the most quality of experiences. Not only that, but the modpack is organized with its own custom GUI and mechanics that serve to streamline the modded experience so that new content can always be added in the future. This is truly one of the largest projects in all of modded Minecraft.
That’s the list! This was definitely a difficult one to write, as it’s so difficult to determine what makes a modpack better than another. Usually, the experience is just different, not necessarily worse. These packs made it to this list by offering beyond quality experiences with their custom integrations, great optimization, well-handled focus of gameplay, and more. That is to say, the list is entirely subjective, so please understand if your favorite modpack isn’t listed. With that said, I hope you all have a wonderful day.
