Overview

Vanilla illagers cover the basics: raids, woodland mansions, outposts. If you want something with more teeth, the Illager Invasion mod is worth a look. It adds 11 new hostile mobs, a handful of custom structures, a dedicated boss fight, and an enchantment upgrade system, all without dismantling the base game. Players who enjoy the existing illager mechanics will find this mod slots in naturally, expanding what’s already there. Getting it running on your server is straightforward through the Apex panel, and this guide walks through every step.

Getting Started

Illager Invasion mod gameplay in Minecraft

After joining the server, new structures may already be visible depending on your spawn location. These spots are where most hostile illagers patrol, so prepare combat gear before venturing out. You can also install the JEI mod to browse new craftable items quickly, which comes in handy for the imbuing table. If you’d prefer to test the mod before committing to survival play, becoming an operator or enabling cheats lets you use the /locate command to find custom structures directly and creative mode to inspect new items.

Illager Types

New illager mob types added by the Illager Invasion mod

The mod adds 11 new illager mobs, each built with distinct combat roles. Sorcerers, necromancers, basher variants, archivists, illusioners, provokers, and firecallers are among those you’ll encounter in the world. Most are immediately hostile, though one older illager type won’t attack unless provoked. There is also a boss mob covered in its own section below.

New Structures

Illager Fort structure added by Illager Invasion mod

Five custom structures spawn across different biomes, each with its own mix of enemies and loot.

The Illager Fort appears in taiga biomes and contains a mix of vanilla and modded illagers patrolling several buildings and outdoor training areas. Clearing the fort yields lootable chests throughout the grounds.

The Illusioner Tower generates in taigas and dark forests. It spans multiple levels, with illusioners that create decoy clones on upper floors and archivists using magic attacks in designated rooms. Chests on each floor and mob drops provide a strong loot payoff for completing it.

The Firecaller Hut sits in badlands biomes and holds a unique older illager who won’t attack on sight. Getting too close triggers fireball summoning in self-defense. Defeating this mob drops valuable items.

The Labyrinth spawns in forest biomes and presents a maze-like underground structure with illager enemies.

The Sorcerer Hut generates in dark forests, housing a sorcerer type illager with spell-based attacks.

Loot and Custom Items

Chests inside these structures hold a range of items: arrows, berries, bread, golden apples, enchanted books, sticks, and emeralds among others. Unique crafting materials also appear, including unusual dust and illusionary dust used to craft a hallowed gem. Hallowed gems are required for the imbuing table process. Mob drops can yield platinum chunks and magical fire charges as well.

Imbuing Table

The imbuing table is the mod’s only craftable interactive block. It lets you push enchantments past their vanilla caps, such as raising sharpness beyond level five. Using it requires hallowed gems and matching enchanted books. To craft the table, you must first defeat the Invoker boss and collect its unique item drop. The JEI mod displays the full crafting recipe and all other new recipes from the mod.

Invoker Boss Fight

The Invoker is the mod’s boss mob, more powerful than standard enemies but below ender dragons and withers in difficulty. It spawns near the top floor of a woodland mansion, which makes finding it the bigger challenge given how rare those structures are. During the fight, the Invoker summons additional creatures to assist it. If cornered or heavily damaged, it teleports to a new location at random. Expect explosion attacks, knockback, and effects from its summoned minions throughout the encounter.

Configuration

Illager Invasion’s configuration file handles raid participation settings (choosing which illager types join raids) and general options like toggling the Invoker boss bar. All edits are done directly in the FTP panel’s built-in editor, with no file downloads needed.

  1. Navigate to the FTP File Access area and use your login credentials accordingly.
  2. Once logged in, locate and enter the config directory from the list.
  3. Afterward, find and click Edit on the right side of illagerinvasion-server.toml.
  4. While inside the editor, make your desired changes and press Save at the top.
  5. Return to the main panel and Restart the server to apply these edits.

On Fabric or older mod versions, the configuration file may be located at …/[world]/serverconfig instead. For singleplayer, the same config or serverconfig directory applies. Stop the game before editing and relaunch to apply changes.

Common Issues

Cannot Startup or Join

If the Minecraft launcher won’t start, the most likely cause is a missing dependency or mismatched loader version. Fabric requires three separate mods: Illager Invasion, Puzzles Lib, and Fabric API plus Forge Config API Port. Verify that the loader version matches the mod version — for example, using a Forge or NeoForge version that corresponds to the same Minecraft release as the downloaded mod file. The same version-matching rule applies to the server: check the Game File section in the panel and confirm all required mods are uploaded to the FTP mods folder. Contact the Apex Support Team for further help with startup issues.

Missing Custom Structures

If no new structures appear after installation, the world was most likely generated before the mod was added. Creating a new world is the cleanest fix. If keeping the existing world matters, explore unloaded chunks far from the current base to trigger fresh generation with new structures. If structures still fail to appear after exploring new territory, generating a fresh world is recommended.

Unable to Edit Config

If configuration changes don’t take effect, confirm you clicked Save in the FTP editor and restarted the server afterward. Also check the file for syntax errors such as missing spaces or typos. For singleplayer, close the game before editing and reopen to apply changes. Stopping the server or client before making any edits prevents conflicts with active file locks.
