Overview
Fans of Pokémon playing Vanilla Minecraft may desire to combine these two games together, creating a unique experience for everyone. This can significantly enhance the gameplay by introducing special features, such as new items and creatures. Whether you’re trying to catch all the Pokémon or evolve your favorite one, this is only done through using modifications. A recently developed mod called Cobblemon brings Pokémon elements to life in Minecraft. This is a wonderful way to enjoy the game with friends or family, which is easily configured in our panel. Our system allows you to quickly set up everything and even make changes if needed. However, some newcomers to the hosting scene may be unfamiliar with our user interface. Due to this, we’ve created this Apex Hosting tutorial to show you how to install and play the Cobblemon mod in your Minecraft server.
How to Download
- Navigate towards Cobblemon on CurseForge, then click the
Files
option near the top. - Scroll down and locate your desired version, then select it.
- Afterward, press the
Download
button on the right-hand side of your screen. - Save this file somewhere easily accessible for later.
Additionally, do the same process for Kotlin if you’re using Forge for this setup. Otherwise, using Fabric requires you to download Fabric API for the installation. This also applies for Architectury API, but has two separate versions for either type you need. Without downloading these dependencies, Cobblemon will not function properly on your server or client.
Client Installation
Before playing Cobblemon, you’ll need to install Forge or Fabric on your Minecraft launcher. This is required for mod support, but make sure it’s for the correct game version when setting it up. Afterward, follow the instructions below to upload the modifications on your launcher.
- Open your Minecraft launcher, then click on
Installations
at the top. - Locate your installed Forge or Fabric profile and press its
Folder
icon. - In the newly opened folder, enter the mods directory.
Note: If you aren’t finding this, then create it for the installation process. - Afterward, drag and drop all the downloaded files into this area.
- Upon finishing, return to your modded profile and click
Play
to begin loading it.
Server Installation
Installing Cobblemon on your Minecraft server requires you to change the Game File option to Forge or Fabric, similar to setting up your launcher for mod support. Once you’ve done this, the following steps below guides you through the installation process.
- Head towards your Apex server panel and click
FTP File Access
near the top left. - Type your
Password
in the text box, then clickLogin
. - Afterward, locate and enter the mods directory from the list.
- Once there, press
Upload
at the top left corner of your screen. - Drag and drop the mod files into the respective area, then wait for it to reach
100%
. - Return to the main panel and
Restart
the server to begin loading the changes.
Getting Started
Upon entering the server, players may notice Pokémon running around the world. These are all passive creatures, but can fight you if initiated. Alternatively, using Poké Balls to catch them is an option to slowly build your party. At some point, players can even store them in a computer tool for later. This gives you the ability to catch them all, among saving powerful ones. Besides this, there are many new items and blocks from the Cobblemon mod, so we strongly recommend installing JEI or a similar one to view all crafting recipes.
Before trying to catch or fight any Pokémon, press M
on your keyboard to open the starting menu. This allows you to choose from a wide variety of Pokémon to begin with, varying in unique categories. Make sure to review all of them before choosing your buddy, as each one is special. There are several types, abilities, and possible evolutions for them. Keep this in mind as you make your selection and play through this mod.
Types of Pokémon
As mentioned above, there are many different kinds of Pokémon to find in your Minecraft world. These are tailored to each biome, similar to default mobs of the game. Whether you’ve found rock, water, fire, or other types, all of them will have unique abilities. There is almost every single Pokémon available to fight or obtain, with the vast majority being rare. This means you’ll occasionally stumble upon a special kind, rather than a normal low powered type.
Pokémon Combat
While engaging in combat with Pokémon, it’ll resemble the official game user interface. This means you have four main options: Fight, Switch, Catch, or Run. Players can select some moves to damage the other Pokémon, but will also be hurt by them. Alternatively, you can switch around your fighters to get the perfect match. For example, fire types aren’t suitable to fight water-based creatures.
If you’re low on health, then run away to avoid further damage. Otherwise, if you have Poké Balls, then catching them is another option to try out.
Apricorn Trees
Crafting any Poké Balls requires you to find Apricorn, which are found hanging on its corresponding tree. There are many kinds of them, leading to unique creations. Whether you’re using the normal red type or stumbled on pink versions, there’s plenty to loot. There’s also new wooden blocks from this tree, which can be used for good decorations or building materials.
It’s encouraged to make a farm, so you and others can easily obtain apricorn items. Otherwise, you’ll spend a lot of time finding them since they’re uncommon in the world.
Poké Balls
There are lots of unique Poké Balls to discover, with some being extremely powerful. For example, using Netherite and other materials, players can create a Master Ball. This promises you that anytime you Catch a Pokémon, it’ll be captured without any issues. Other kinds may increase your odds or have special abilities like giving on-capture benefits. There are 32 Poké Balls to choose from, but all have specific crafting recipes. Remember, most of these need Apricorn items, including the different varieties of them.
Pokémon Storage
Later on in your gameplay, building a PC is heavily advised. This allows you to store extra Pokémon, which comes in handy if you’re trying to catch them all. Additionally, it also serves as a way to categorize your different types. Players only get six slots in their party, so a PC to store and manage them is important. Otherwise, you’ll only have the above maximum number of Pokémon to use.
Keep this in mind when capturing them, as you may not need low powered kinds.
Healing Station
Whenever your Pokémon gets damaged, using a Healing Machine is required to bring it back to life. This is extremely useful, as it means you can constantly reuse the same creature to fight others. The entire party can be healed at once, simply right-click
the station six times to do it. Remember, using JEI or another similar modification allows you to view its crafting recipe.
New Minerals
There are tons of new ores and materials to find or craft in your world. Some of these include, Shiny, Sun, Dawn, Thunder, and many more. These are used to evolve your Pokémon, but there are other items to craft with them too. Similarly, the extra craftable ones can be used for evolutions too. This is an important part of managing your Pokémon, as upgrading them leads to more HP, power, and abilities.
Pokémon Evolution
When you’ve collected enough materials for a suitable Pokémon, press M
on your keyboard with the items in your inventory. This opens the main menu to view your buddy’s Info, Moves, and Stats. If you can upgrade it, then an Evolve button will appear in the bottom left corner. Press this and confirm the changes near the top right area, instantly increasing your Pokémon’s stats and form. This comes in handy when fighting other creatures, as you have more moves and power at your disposal.
Configuration
If you’re wanting to change or tweak some settings from the Cobblemon mod, then accessing its configuration file is required. This allows you to alter a Pokémon’s maximum and minimum level range, among lots of other aspects. All of this is accessible through the FTP panel of your server, which has a simplified user interface. When you’re ready, follow the instructions below to make and apply your changes.
- Head towards the
FTP File Access
area, thenLogin
with yourPassword
. - Navigate to the following directory: …/config/cobblemon.
- Afterward, press
Edit
on the main.json file to reveal its contents. - Make any necessary changes, then click
Save
at the top. - Return to the main panel and
Restart
the server to apply the edits.
Common Issues
Unable to Join Server
In some cases, players will be unable to join the server due to a few reasons. The main one is entering an invalid IP Address:Port or Subdomain when connecting. Make sure that everyone uses the right set of values for this process, which can be found in the main panel. Besides this, failing to install the mods locally will result in the same issue. Ensure players successfully install Cobblemon and its dependencies on a Forge or Fabric profile in the Minecraft launcher. However, if no one can join the server, then there could be an underlying issue.
Cobblemon Isn’t Working
If the modification isn’t loading or working, then ensure you’ve installed all its dependencies. This differs depending on if you’re using Forge or Fabric, which applies for both the server and client. A common problem to encounter is accidentally downloading the wrong versions of these mods and trying to use them together. This results in the mod failing to load or simply crashing all together. Although, restarting
the server is required for everything to load after uploading the files in the FTP area. Similarly, rebooting the launcher after the installation process is needed too.
