Exploring your Minecraft world to find hidden treasures such as shipwrecks or temples can take a long time, leading to a desire for alternatives. There are other structures containing rare equipment or materials, but are even harder to find in-game and could result in frustration. Lucky Block, a Forge/Fabric mod, introduces unique blocks and potions for customized loot. For instance, if you stumble upon a lucky block and break it, then you’ll be randomly awarded with items or entities. Additionally, users can craft these blocks instead of hunting for them to make material collecting easier. This can truly spice up your Minecraft modded experience for all players, as finding rare items will be entertaining and unique. Apex Hosting will showcase the Lucky Block mod and its installation to get you started.
The Lucky Block mod was created by Alex Socha in early 2022 and already collected over 415,000 downloads on CurseForge. This was designed to bring an element of surprise to your Minecraft experience through blocks that randomly drop items or give effects. There are levels to how lucky you or other players can be, which determines the quality of the loot. The mod is available on Forge 1.6.4 to 1.19 and Fabric 1.16.5 to 1.19, so it’s ready to be installed on most servers.

Loading into your new world will automatically generate lucky blocks to spawn, either with unique structures or standalone. The rest of the world will be completely normal unless otherwise impacted by another mod. This modification adds custom items, such as lucky swords and potions that you may find throughout the game. If hunting for lucky blocks takes too long, then you can either configure their spawn chances to your liking or craft them. The Lucky Block mod is a fun aspect that can be added to your Minecraft server.
When encountering lucky blocks in your world, they can either be normal, very lucky, or unlucky versions. The only difference between them are the chances for good gear and effects, so you always have a shot at something good no matter the block variant. Sometimes, the unlucky types aren’t entirely negative but may be perceived as worthless.
For instance, instead of getting diamonds you’d get a single rose. On the other hand, you could instantly explode from bad luck when breaking the lucky block in-game. Remember, the chances are determined by the variants of the block.
As for crafting them, you’ll need the following items:
- Gold Ingot x8
- Dropper x1
Once you have a normal lucky block, you can make it more luckier by adding valuable materials to it in the crafting table. These can be random items such as emeralds, iron, gold, diamonds, etc.. However, you can use poor materials such as mob drops to make it an unlucky block.
Instead of using lucky blocks, players can use potions that act like their counterpart. Similarly, these have normal, very lucky, and unlucky variants that can be used. They drop armor, food, materials, and give effects just like the blocks. Unfortunately, you cannot create these lucky potions and are only found in lucky blocks. If you collect too many of them, be careful when using them since it can easily overwhelm you.
A good example of that is having almost every potion effect with countless entities on the ground. It’s fun when this happens, but may cause lag or other issues due to all the items and effects. It’s encouraged to use lucky potions slowly or in low quantities to avoid unwanted issues.
In rare cases, you or other players can get unique item or entity drops. For instance, a specialized villager can spawn from a lucky block or potion that offers enchanted equipment.
Other rare awards include structures, hero’s armor, skeleton horsemen, or custom chests. By default, these lucky drops are considered to be rarer than all other ones, but can be changed to become common. Although, if you or other players spam lucky potions and blocks then you’re promised to get rare rewards.
The Lucky Block mod is highly customizable, but is complicated to edit. You can find all the config files in this FTP directory:
…/config/lucky/VERSION/. For example, if you wanted to change the lucky blocks’ natural spawning, then press Edit for the
natural_gen.txt file. All blocks have a chance to generate in a 16×16 region of the world, so increasing the
spawnrate values means they are less likely to spawn. In other words, if you want them to drop more then decrease the chance value. There are other files for you to review and configure, so you can learn more about them here.
Whether you’re hunting for lucky blocks or crafting them, obtaining unique awards is always available. Changing their spawn or drop rates increases the opportunity for getting rare loot. The Lucky Block mod is entertaining and eventful for all players, as there are risks when trying your luck. The modification can combine nicely with other ones due to it working out-of-the-box and its highly customizable configuration. This adds a fun aspect to your Minecraft world and advances your progression through its many unique drops. We hoped this resource helped you get started with the mod on your Minecraft server!
