How to Set Admins on a 7-Days to Die Server

Giving a player admin access on your 7 Days to Die server lets them use server commands to moderate players, adjust the world, and keep gameplay running smoothly. The Apex panel console handles this in a few quick steps, and you have two options: adding by SteamID64 or adding by username. This guide covers both methods, explains permission levels, and lists the most useful commands once access is granted.

Locating a SteamID64

Every Steam user has a unique 64-bit ID. You need this to add an admin by SteamID.

  1. Navigate to the SteamID I/O website and search for the desired player.
  2. Once the player is found, verify the name and profile match.
  3. Locate the steamID64 field and copy the full number string.

You’re now ready to set the player as an admin.

Set an Admin by SteamID

Adding admins by SteamID is the more reliable method. The player does not need to be online.

  1. Log into your Apex server panel and select your server.
  2. In the left-hand menu, click Console.
  3. In the text field, enter the following command:
    admin add Steam_[SteamID] 0
Replace [SteamID] with the steamID64 you copied. The 0 sets the permission level to full admin.
  4. Press Enter to submit the command. A confirmation message appears in the console.

Set an Admin by Username

If the SteamID method isn’t working, you can add an admin by in-game username instead. The player must be connected to the server when you run this command.

  1. Make sure the player has joined your 7 Days to Die server.
  2. Log into your Apex server panel and select your server.
  3. Click Console in the left-hand menu.
  4. Enter the following command:
    admin add [Username] 0
Replace [Username] with the player’s exact in-game name.
  5. Press Enter to submit. The player will have admin access immediately.

Permission Levels

The number at the end of the admin add command sets the permission level. Lower numbers mean higher access:

  • 0 — Full administrator access
  • 1 — Moderator-level access (can kick and ban but not all commands)
  • 1000 — Default player level (effectively removes admin)

To remove admin access entirely, use:
admin remove [Username or Steam_SteamID]

Using Admin Commands In-Game

Once admin access is set, open the in-game console with F1. This opens a command menu at the top of the screen where you can type commands directly. Press Enter to run a command. A confirmation message appears in the console if the command succeeds.

Notable Commands

These are the most useful commands for 7 Days to Die server administration. For the full list, see the 7 Days to Die console commands guide.

  • giveself [Item ID] — Give yourself an item
  • buff [Buff ID] — Apply a buff to your character
  • debuff [Buff ID] — Remove a buff from a player
  • giveselfxp [Amount] — Grant a set amount of XP
  • kick [Steam ID / PlayerName] [Reason] — Kick a specific player
  • kickall [Reason] — Kick all players from the server
  • ban add [Steam ID / Playername] [Duration + Unit] [Reason] — Ban a player
  • say [Message] — Broadcast a message to all active players
  • saveworld — Save the world in its current state

Conclusion

Setting admins on a 7 Days to Die server takes only a few seconds through the Apex console. Use the SteamID method when the player is offline; use the username method when they’re connected. Keep admin access limited to players you trust fully — and remember that removing access is just as simple as adding it. Once your admin structure is in place, you’ll have full control over your server’s moderation and gameplay.
