Overview

Biomes make up the entirety of Minecraft, constantly changing and waiting to be explored. Whether you are in the depths of the Nether or building an overworld base, there are tons of biomes to be found with their own quirks. In some cases, you may need to find a structure or resource that can only be found within specific biomes. This can become tedious, as biomes can be tough to locate without the use of admin commands. This is no longer an issue thanks to Nature’s Compass, a Minecraft mod that allows players to use an item to find the biome of their choice. While the concept is simple, the usage more than makes up for it. Installing and using mods on your server is easy with our Apex Hosting panel, so we have created this tutorial to help you get started.

Summary

Nature’s Compass is created by Chaosyr on CurseForge and features over 65 million downloads. The mod is available throughout various versions from 1.7.10 to 1.19 as well as having Forge and Fabric versions. The compass is a utility mod that allows players to locate a variety of biomes in their world from both vanilla and modded.

In-Game Usage

Upon spawning into the game, you are ready to begin crafting your Nature’s Compass for use!

Text

Aside from requiring a pre-existing compass, the other items needed are easily accessible.

  • Compass x1
  • Sapling x4
  • Log x4

Text

Once crafted, simply right-click the item to open its GUI. With this, you are capable of viewing each of the available biomes, as well as a variety of options within the menu itself.

Biome List

As the name suggests, this will display all currently available biomes that you can search for within your world.

Search Bar

Using the search bar, you can narrow down a specific biome from the list. This is helpful if you have many modded biomes.

Start Search

Text

By selecting a biome and pressing Start Search, a GUI will appear in the top-left corner of your screen. This will display information on the tracked biome, the coordinates, and the distance from you. You can then use the compass direction to find the tracked biome.

Info

Text

Similarly, if you select a biome and press Info, it will display more detailed information on the biome. This will include the source mod, category, precipitation details, and climate information. This is beneficial if you are looking for specific biome attributes, rather than just the name.

Teleport

Text

With the teleport button, you can teleport to the coordinates of the currently-tracked biome. Keep in mind that only players with teleport permissions are capable of using this feature. There is also a risk of teleporting into a wall, so we advise only using this feature in creative mode.

Sort Feature

The sorting feature will allow you to easily find your desired biome with some sorting methods. These include name, temperature, rainfall, category and more.

Common Issues

I get an error when joining the server:
If this issue occurs, it is often caused by an issue with the mods on your own client. Ensure that Minecraft Forge or Fabric has been installed alongside the Nature’s Compass mod to match the server before joining. If issues still occur afterwards, ensure you are running your modded profile from the launcher when starting the game, otherwise the game will not use the installed mod.

I can join the server, but the item is not functioning:
This issue most often occurs when the mods are properly installed on your own game, but they are not working on the server. First, ensure the server is running Forge or Fabric, then visit the FTP File Access. Enter the mods folder like before and ensure the mod .jar file is located here. If not, reupload it, then restart the server to allow these changes to take effect before joining once again.
