Overview:

Vanilla Minecraft is often quite fun on its own, but lacks a challenge forcing you to rethink your play style. This is why there are so many gametypes and modpacks out there, such as Skyblock, which add a whole new layer to gameplay. Introducing StoneBlock, a heavier modpack that starts you surrounded by stone, providing a challenge to dig out massive tunnels and start with nothing. With Apex Hosting, it is very easy to install and play StoneBlock, so today we will be showing you how to get started!

Summary:

StoneBlock is a 1.12.2 version modpack featuring over 200 mods. Rather than being up on a SkyBlock, you are within a cave, chipping away at the stone. StoneBlock is developed by Suneker as the owner, as well as knoxhack and ロ_ロ as contributors. With over 2.5 million downloads, it is a massively popular modpack.

Server-Side Installation:

  1. Head to the Apex Server Panel, then scroll down to the Jar File section.
  2. Click the menu dropdown, then scroll or search for Stoneblock.

How to Get Started:

Upon spawning in, you will immediately notice you are surrounded by stone with a single item. This is your quest book, keep it safe as it will provide information on how to progress through the mod.

To get started, we will provide some assistance with the first few in-game quests.

The Start:

Stoneblock Start

With nothing in your hand, punch the stone to gain pebbles. As a reward, you get a Loot Chest.

Crafting Table:

Stoneblock Cobble
Stoneblock Crafting

Once you have 16 pebbles, open your crafting menu and place 4 in to get cobblestone. Then place the cobblestone in the same pattern to get a stone crafting table.

Dirt:

Stoneblock Rod
Stoneblock Hammer

Now that you have your crafting table, place 4 cobblestone in the stick-pattern to get two stone rods. Place this stone rods diagonally with 2 cobblestone to receive a stone hammer

Stoneblock Gravel
Stoneblock Dirt

You can now use this hammer on the blocks to make other blocks. It goes Stone > Cobblestone > Gravel > Dirt > Sand > Dust. In this case, we need 10 dirt to proceed.

Stone Crook & Saplings:

Stoneblock Crook
Stoneblock Sapling

From here, proceed to the crafting table and use your stone to create a stone crook. Using this on dirt will provide the vanilla saplings. Get 4 of each to proceed.

Wood:

Stoneblock Tree

After so much stone, it’s finally time for some oak wood! To proceed, place some dirt down and add oak saplings on top. To speed up the growth, you can repeatedly crouch near a sapling. Collect 16 wood and you’re ready to proceed.

How to Proceed:

Stoneblock Quest

From here, you should now have the ability to obtain stone, gravel, sand, and dirt, as well as multiple types of wood. From here, you can proceed with creating a chest, then follow the rest of the quests.

Each quest will have information to complete and if you are unsure of a recipe, you can click the item in the questbook to get a recipe.

Conclusion:

Overall, StoneBlock is a very fun gamemode, especially for those who enjoy a challenge. If you are fond of Skyblocksor other modpacks such as SkyFactory, this modpack may be of interest to you. I particularly love the concept of starting with nothing but stone, then managing to create trees, tools, and eventually creating power generators from other mods. If you haven’t tried it out yourself, give it a shot, you may find your next favorite game mode!

Common Issues:

I get an error when joining the server:
Often, if a player is unable to join the server, it is because the modpack isn’t properly installed on your own computer. Ensure you are using the official MC Eternal modpack to have all of the proper mods installed to join the server.

My server is stuck loading:
This often happens when a mod is removed from an existing world. You can force the world to load by going to the server console and entering /fml confirm. That should then load the world with the missing mods removed.

Modded items aren’t spawning in the server:
If the mods appear in the creative menu but are not properly appearing on the server, it often means the server is not properly using the modpack. Ensure that the server was switched to MC Eternal through the panel and restarted to load it up.
