Overview

When playing Vanilla Minecraft, maneuvering across the world is essential for survival. In order to further advance the concept of maneuvering in difficult spaces, players created the parkour minigame. Whether it is created as a map or expanded upon by plugins on a server, the parkour minigame allows players to navigate from platform to platform and compete for the best time or a prize at the end. There are thousands of maps and plugins available to create a parkour server, but setting them up can be tedious and a bit overwhelming for new server owners. We have made this process a lot easier by creating a pre-made gamemode just for playing parkour on your Minecraft server. The gamemode can be easily installed on your existing server from the Game File dropdown, or you can choose it as your default game mode when purchasing a new server.

How to install the Parkour pre-build

Installing our Parkour game mode is quick and easy. You can choose it from the Game File dropdown just like any other modpack or game in our inventory. To do this, you can follow the steps below:

  1. Login to your Control Panel and stop the server.
  2. Scroll down and find the Game File section.
  3. Click on the dropdown menu, then start typing Parkour. The game mode should pop up for you immediately.
    find game type
  4. Select Parkour from the menu and a new dialogue box will appear on your screen.
  5. Choose the Change Version, Use Included World, and Restart Now options.
    change game file
  6. Once you are done the server will load the new game mode and be ready to join immediately.

Getting Started

Joining a course

available courses

Starting a run with this game mode is pretty straightforward. From the spawn point, walk up to any of the signs and right-click on the name of the map you want to join. You will be immediately teleported to the start of the map.

Gameplay

checkpoint

Once you are on the map, the timer will start. Move as quickly as you can to the finish line to get the high score. You will need to jump, sprint, and climb through different obstacles throughout the map on your way to the goal. As you move through the map, you will need to step on pressure plates to activate checkpoints. Each time you activate a checkpoint you will receive a notification on your screen. If you accidentally fall, you will be teleported back to your last checkpoint.

Your current time, best time, and high scores for the server will show up on a scoreboard on the right side of your screen. Be extra careful to hit every checkpoint you find. Your time won’t count unless you hit every checkpoint along the way to the finish line. If you happen to miss one you can always start over to try again. Each course will have a red mushroom block at the end to mark the goal.

Important Items

essential items

Each player will be given a set of items when they join a map. Each item will make navigating the game a little bit easier for your players. The Arrow will teleport you back to the last checkpoint you activated. This is very useful if you happen to get stuck somewhere in the course. The bone will turn other players invisible so you can focus on the task at hand. The oak sapling will cancel your current run and teleport you back to the hub. Finally, the stick will reset your time and restart your current run from the beginning. Activate these items by right-clicking on them while they are in your hand.

Courses

Valley course
Valley

This is a great course for people who are new to Parkour or just want a scenic route to warm up for something more challenging. Players start in a beautiful wooded canyon and must navigate their way into an ancient (and dangerous) temple. The course starts out fairly easy but becomes a little more difficult after each checkpoint. By the end of the course, even a parkour novice will be able to handle the more difficult courses in this game mode.

Rainbow

The Rainbow course is reminiscent of everyone’s favorite map on Mario Kart. The tunnel of light and color is much more difficult to navigate than it looks. Luckily you don’t have to worry about slipping on a banana peel and into the void here. It is easy for players to lose track of where they are supposed to go and get turned around.

Rainbow course
Tower course
Tower

The Tower is not a good course for anyone with a fear of heights. Players start at y=0 and need to climb their way up to the End Ship at the build limit (y=256) to get out. This course can be as fun as it is frustrating. A wrong step can set you back hundreds of blocks.

Kingdom

This course should look familiar to fans of Mario Bros. The Kingdom course is based on the Mushroom Kingdom featured in almost every game in the Mario franchise. Players won’t be able to fight off King Boo or Phantamanta, but they will be able to navigate through pipes and balance on minuscule platforms as they race to the end.

Journey course
Journey

This is the longest and most difficult of all the courses included in the game mode. The Journey course will take you on an adventure across the harshest environments in Minecraft. You will need to cross a desert, brave frozen tundra, and survive both the Nether and the End to reach the finish line. This is a challenge for only the most determined players on your server.

Ranks

Like all of Apex’s pre-made game modes, Parkour comes with a few preset ranks for you to use and change as needed:

  • Member – The default rank for everyone that joins the server. It gives the basic permissions needed to join and play on the various maps available on the server.
  • Helper – An enhanced version of the Member role with some basic commands to help both the players and the server admins.

The ranks can be edited using the LuckPerms plugin.

Conclusion

With that, you now know how to install the Parkour gametype. Learning the ins and outs of each course is only part of the fun. As you and your players become familiar with each layout, you can start challenging each other for the best time. The courses we have included have something for everyone and provide a great challenge for any skill level. However, If the default maps are no longer interesting you can add new maps or build your own to breathe new life into the server. With the gamemode up and running on the server, you and your players are ready to race for hours on end to compete for the best time.
