Overview
The players of Vanilla Minecraft are introduced to a wide assortment of adventures, with friends amplifying the experience. After defeating the Ender Dragon and Wither, there isn’t much else to do in-game. This may lead some to search for extra content, taking the form of modifications. These are normally combined with others to create large collections of them, known as modpacks. If you’re looking for long lasting gameplay with tons of features to try out, then consider using the Better Minecraft pack. This allows players to enjoy new bosses, dimensions, resources, magical abilities, biomes, structures, equipment, and quests. Whether you’re hunting hostile creatures in dungeons for unique items or exploring many breathtaking worlds, there are lots of possibilities with this pack. Additionally, there are countless different types of Better Minecraft, with few being extremely popular due to their features. Fortunately, we offer all of these modpacks in our panel for you to easily set up and enjoy with friends. However, newcomers to the hosting and modding scene may be unfamiliar with our system. Due to this, we’ll show you how to install and play Better Minecraft on your server in this Apex Hosting tutorial.
Summary
The Better Minecraft modpack is developed by LunaPixelStudios and released on CurseForge’s platform around 2020, sparking many versions of it later on. The main one is for Forge 1.16.5, gathering over 4.5 million downloads. The main premise of this pack is to give players a brand new experience that many hope for in Minecraft 2. Encounter tons of bosses, mobs, dungeons, new villagers, items, resources, and more.

The majority of Better Minecraft types have similar aspects, but will differ due to their game versions. Keep this in mind as you begin to review our “Getting Started” section and its contents, as some features may not be accessible in other modpack variations. Remember, we’re using the Forge 1.16.5 version of Better Minecraft for this tutorial.
Getting Started
Upon entering the Better Minecraft server, players will immediately notice the changes from Vanilla Minecraft. These include brand new biomes, unique passive or hostile mobs nearby, among naturally generated structures. As you continue to play, more features will become noticeable. For instance, stumbling on custom-made dungeons with valuable loot in chests is one of the exciting changes from this modpack. Additionally, anyone can view all the different resources available and their recipes or uses directly from the inventory via the JEI mod. This comes in handy for players to discover what’s possible or simply figuring out how to craft materials and equipment. Besides this, everyone starts out with a special item that’ll be used for the remainder of the gameplay.
This is known as the Quest Book, giving you a brief tutorial upon opening it for the first time. We highly recommend going through each of the sections to fully understand the controls and essential information. There are Task Items and Rewards for each quest, with multiple kinds of chapters for them. This is accessible by hovering the left-hand side of the book’s menu.
It’s also viewable from the inventory near the top left corner, resembling its respective icon. Make sure to receive rewards after completing quests to get the most out of your gameplay experience.
Unique Biomes
While you begin adventuring in the world, countless new biomes will appear on the horizon. Whether you encounter a field of large pumpkins or extremely vast forests with mountains, there are many kinds to explore. Each of these will have unique resources to collect and mobs to tame or slay. If you’ve found a suitable location for a base, then use the FTB Utilities mod to claim its chunks.
This allows the area to be continuously loaded in the server, meaning furnaces and other applicable blocks remain active as if a player was nearby.
New Mobs
An enhanced version of Minecraft wouldn’t be complete without new creatures in the world. Fortunately, this modpack introduces around 50 new mobs to find around the environment. Whether you find special versions of wolves or crocodiles in nearby rivers, there are tons of wildlife to enjoy. Most of these will drop basic resources upon death, so consider making a farm for them.
Keep in mind that some creatures are hostile, so be on guard when exploring. If you wish to know more about them, then review the Animal Dictionary book from the Rewards in the Tutorial chapter of your quests.
More Villagers
When you’ve found a village, there will be lots of villagers with unique jobs. Most of them will patrol with iron golems to protect everyone from zombies, skeletons, among other hostile mobs. Other ones will have specific roles to play, such as Oceanographers or Blueprinters that offer players valuable trades. If you’re lucky enough to find one early in the game, then make sure to take advantage of these new villagers. Additionally, there’s a wide variety of loot to find in chests among most buildings. This can easily provide you with good starter gear or needed materials for powerful weapons.
Wild Structures
Unlike Vanilla Minecraft, there’re many new types of structures to stumble on in the world. These include Bandit Villages, Abandoned Temples, Lighthouses, and more. Some of them will be dangerous while others will be peaceful with friendly NPCs nearby. It’s strongly encouraged to avoid unnecessary conflict early into your gameplay, as it can easily get out of hand.
Once you’re prepared, fight any enemies and claim your prizes in chests around the structures. There are several types of loot to find, as it depends on the place you found in-game.
Gathering Resources
If you haven’t already, make sure to collect lots of resources for your adventure. This involves the basic tools found in normal Minecraft, but also new ones made from unique minerals or found in chests. The vast majority of any special weapons, pickaxes, shovels, armor, etc., are only crafted later on. This is due to fascinating dimensions to explore, as they contain more precious ores and structures to loot.
Besides this, simply continue to build your armory and fill up your inventory with needed materials for the future.
Special Equipment
As for the special kinds of equipment to craft or find in your Better Minecraft world, there are countless of them with unique properties. For example, using a Crystalite Helmet provides you with knockback and blindness resistance. Other ones may increase your damage, give status effects, among more useful aspects.
Most of these pieces of gear will be difficult to obtain, but becomes easier as you continue making progress in the modpack.
Dimensional Bosses
Whether you’re in the Overworld, Nether, or End, there are bosses to fight from the Mowzie’s Mobs mod. These are tough and fierce battles to take on, so make sure you’re well equipped before. For instance, finding a Ferrous Wroughtnaut underneath your world results in an intense combat situation for anyone involved since the large knight wields a shockwave weapon. There are special abilities for each boss too, which always offers a unique experience each time. After successfully defeating one, players will receive valuable items such as armor, powered items, weapons, and more. Ensure to bring along your friends for the fight of your life in Minecraft.
Waystones
Instead of traveling the seas to reach your base, use the Waystones mod to instantly teleport there. This grants you the power to craft unique statues that act as fast travel waypoints in the world. There can be private or global waystones for players to use, giving you more opportunity in-game. For instance, you can make a hub for new users to stay while having your own house that isn’t accessible by them. This greatly comes in handy when exploring and navigating the world.
Upgraded Netherite
Another wonderful enhancement from this modpack is the ability to upgrade netherite items and materials into even more powerful versions of it. Some may require a crafting table while others need a smithing area for this process. Regardless of this, there are many different kinds of ingots to try out. These include Golderite, Blazerite, Enderite, Prismarite, Witherite, and tons more.
Using them on your normal netherite gear strengthens their durability and possibly gives other aspects, such as attracting nearby items to your character.
Twilight Forest
When you’re at the point of finishing almost everything in the normal dimensions, consider exploring the Twilight Forest. This area is an awe-inspiring place to visit, as there are enormous trees, vast vegetation, abandoned buildings, and loads of resources to collect. Additionally, players can encounter extra bosses that are even more challenging than other ones.
Anyone can easily access this new dimension, as it only requires a 2×2 water hole with 12 different flowers surrounding it, then a thrown diamond in the center to trigger its portal. However, make sure to be well equipped beforehand since there are many dangers lurking around in the Twilight Forest.
The Abyss
Far away in the depths of your world lies a hidden dimension filled with dangerous creatures, environments, and other challenges. This is only reached after completing the End chapter in your Quest Book, as it provides you with needed resources to build the portal. Once created, you’ll enter in the Abyss and may immediately get attacked by large spiders or other creatures. Fortunately, the difficulties are worthwhile since players can obtain some of the most powerful weapons, tools, and armor in the game. This dimension is considered the “endgame” of Better Minecraft, but countless activities still await you.
Common Issues
An extremely common issue to encounter is being unable to join the server, which can have a few reasons that cause it. One of these is entering an invalid IP Address:Port or Subdomain when making the connection in-game. This information is crucial, as it directly affects what server the player(s) join. Make sure to verify these details by double checking your main panel, as it’s revealed near the top. Besides this, another issue is installing an incorrect or outdated version of Better Minecraft. Remember, there are lots of unique kinds of the same modpack. If you’re using the Forge 1.16.5 instance from this guide, then ensure all players download that from CurseForge. Otherwise, if the situation persists, then an underlying problem may exist.
Occasionally, the entire modpack will either fail to work or simply encounter minor problems. For example, players may notice it’s not functioning properly on the server. Solving this requires the owner to confirm Better Minecraft and its corresponding version is selected from the Game File area of the main panel. Afterward, ensure to generate a new world and restart the server to begin loading everything. Although, using an existing Server Profile for this process may cause internal conflict. This is due to how each profile works, as it creates a new directory in the FTP area for your game files. Creating a new one is highly recommended, especially since Better Minecraft contains lots of modifications. Alternatively, manually installing this on the server is an option that should resolve any problems. As for client-related issues, ensure enough allocated memory is on your CurseForge launcher since that could be causing the situation. Otherwise, it could be from simply having the wrong version of Better Minecraft installed.
In some cases, Better Minecraft may lower your server’s performance and result in poor or unplayable gameplay. Solving this can be difficult, but reviewing our Modded Optimization Guide is your best option. This may give you some ideas to try out, such as adding special mods to increase performance or tweaking some settings. However, the server itself may not have enough allocated resources to run this large modpack. If this is the case, then we highly suggest upgrading your plan or contacting support for additional assistance.
