Overview
When playing on a Project Zomboid server, you may find yourself in need of using server commands. Luckily, the game includes a default admin user for each server, allowing you to log in and access all commands. Whether this is used to moderate, give items, or simply tweak server settings, this is all possible when you set an admin on a PZ server. Becoming an admin can be confusing for unfamiliar players, so we have created this Apex Hosting guide to ease you through the steps.
Setting Admin Credentials
- Navigate to your Apex Server Panel and log in.
- Proceed to the
Customizations
tab on the left-hand side. - Under
Admin Password
, set the desired login password. - Under
Admin Username
, set the username for the admin account. - Once complete, return to the main panel page and restart the server.
Note: When selecting the admin username, “admin” cannot be used in the beginning of the selected name. For example, Admin_Apex will not work, but Apex_Admin will function properly. If you are unsure, refrain from using the word admin in the username altogether.
Accessing Admin In-Game
- Launch Project Zomboid and navigate to join your server.
- Where you normally enter your account username, enter your admin username.
- In the account password field, enter your selected admin password.
- Join the server using these credentials.
You should now have admin access in-game! You can confirm this works by looking for the red Admin
text in your nametag!
Adding Other Admins
In cases where you want to add extra admins in your Project Zomboid server, simply execute the /setaccesslevel [username] admin
command. Make sure to type the specific username without the brackets for this to work properly. Once this is accomplished, you and others will have admin permissions in-game. Keep in mind that this should only be for those you trust and not anyone else, as this provides them with tools to possible grief or otherwise inflict harm against your server.
Common Issues
I’m not listed as admin:
Oftentimes, this means that the admin username is incorrectly typed. First, ensure that the username you enter matches the exact name you typed out in the customizations tab. If issues still occur, restart the server once again to ensure the name change registered.
Wrong username or password given:
When this occurs, it usually means that the entered admin details are not correct. Ensure the credentials entered match the exact text in the customization fields. Once you confirm they are correct and are still not working, restart the server and try again.
