Overview
When playing on a Valheim dedicated server, you may eventually find yourself in need of selecting which players can join the server without individually whitelisting them. Luckily, Valheim has the option to set a server password, so only players with your selected password can join. This can be beneficial if you are hosting a community server with a large number of players. Setting a Valheim server password can be confusing if you are unfamiliar with the instructions, so we have created this Apex Hosting guide to ease you through the process.
Note: Ensure your selected Valheim server password is at least 5 characters and is different from your server name.
Setting a Server Password
- Navigate to the Apex Server panel and stop the server.
- Proceed to the
Customizations
tab on the left. - Locate the
Valheim Password
text field. - Enter your desired password on the right-hand side.
- Return to the main panel page once complete and restart the server.
Now when a player tries to join your Valheim server, it will require a password before joining.
Common Issues
I’m receiving a Wrong Password error:
Oftentimes, this may occur if the password was typed incorrectly during the setup or did not properly take effect if it was recently changed. To fix this, use the eye symbol to reveal the server password and ensure it is correct. Afterward, restart the server once more and try to reconnect with your password. If there are still issues, use the copy
button next to the password and paste it into the game.
The server is not asking for a password:
There are a few reasons this may occur, although it is usually due to the server not properly restarting while a password is set. Return to the password field and ensure it is filled out with the requirements from the note at the top of the page. If it is correct, restart the server once more and check once more.
