In some cases, players may find it difficult to locate bastions in Minecraft. This is amplified by challenges in the Nether, as scary mobs and dangerous landscapes exist. Additionally, these large structures typically are buried completely or partially – making it that much harder to find. Fortunately, we’ve created this blog to show you the simplest and safest ways to locate bastions in Minecraft!
Bastions are semi-randomly generated structures in the Nether. They appear as quadrants, which split the whole dimension. These are 432×432 blocks in Java Edition and 480×480 blocks in Bedrock Edition. Each region has a gap of four chunks on the southern and eastern edges where neither fortresses nor bastions can spawn.
Bastions look like ruins of different structures, and you can spot them because they’re made from a darker material called Blackstone.
This method is specifically for PC users.
Before embarking on your bastion search, make sure you’re properly prepared:
Some time finding a bastion in the nether can be difficult not only for the naturally fearsome mobs and a difficult lands but for the location s where

The easiest method in survival is to explore the Nether around Y-level 60, especially in Nether Wastes. Use high render and simulation distance (20+ chunks) to increase visibility. Bastions are more likely to spawn along the X-axis.
Bastions most commonly spawn between Y: 55–65, often embedded in terrain. Searching too high or low can make you miss them completely.
Bastions can generate in all Nether biomes except Basalt Deltas. They’re easiest to find in Nether Wastes, where terrain is more open.
In Java Edition, bastions generate one per 432×432 block region. In Bedrock Edition, they spawn in 480×480 block regions, with some chunks excluded to avoid overlap with other structures.
You’ll need:
You might be searching in Basalt Deltas, which don’t allow bastion generation. Make sure your Y-level is around 60 and check that render distance is high. If needed, use the /locate structure bastion_remnant command with cheats enabled.
