How to Install MetaMod on a Counter-Strike 2 Server

For those who want to switch from vanilla to modded, MetaMod is the right choice for you! This takes your community Counter-Strike 2 server to the next level with plugin support and custom mechanics. When combined with CounterStrikeSharp, you can truly shape your server to anything you want. In this Apex Hosting guide, we’ll show you how to install and set up MetaMod on your own CS2 server 👏
 

Download

You will need to download the Linux version of MetaMode by clicking here. Save it somewhere easily accessible, as you’ll be uploading that into the server. The file name should be something like “mmsource-2.0.0-git1411-linux.tar”. When you’re ready, follow the section below.
 

Server Preparation

Your Counter-Strike 2 server automatically verifies files upon each startup. This can overwrite certain files, causing issues for custom configurations. Due to this, you need to disable that functionality.

1. Head towards your Apex server panel and stop the server.
2. Navigate to Server Configuration > Customizations.
   
3. Scroll down and find Steam File Validation.
4. Select Disabled from the drop down menu.
   

 
Afterwards, continue following the instructions below to install MetaMod.
 

Installing MetaMod

1. Head towards your server panel and stop the server.
2. Navigate to File Management > FTP File Access on the left.
   
3. Enter the …/game/csgo directory.
4. Drag + drop the zip file, wait for it to upload.
5. Right-click it and select Unzip.
   
6. Locate and double-click the gameinfo.gi file.
7. Inside of it, find the SearchPaths section.
8. Under Game_LowViolence, copy & paste this on a new line:
   • Game csgo/addons/metamod
   
9. Click Save at the bottom, then start up the server from the panel.
