What is CS2?
CS2 is a super-competitive first-person shooter where two teams of five players go head-to-head in various PvP gamemodes. Terrorists and Counter-Terrorists attempt to outplay each other by either eliminating the enemy team or completing the objective. There are also some other gamemodes and seasonal events like Deathmatch and Battle Royale, but they’re not representative of the main gamemode, which is known as Competitive or ’Comp.’ There are even community servers based around minigames like ’surfing’ and ’bunny hopping.’ CS:GO is a game that defined the FPS genre with its unique weapon models, animations and sound design for its guns. The Source Engine is also a great go-to for simple yet effective gunplay and shooting mechanics, with classics like Half Life, Garry’s Mod, and Portal all utilizing it. CS2 is the epitome of low-latency competitive shooter gameplay.
How to Start a CS2 Server
Setting up a dedicated CS2 server is not a simple task. It requires specialized hardware, software and bandwidth to provide the best environment for players. Managing your server is easy with our web-based control panel, allowing you to control your settings, install mods, add new maps and more! Playing CS:GO multiplayer without a dedicated server means you have to rely on random servers in the server browser each time you want to play. With a dedicated CS2 server from Apex Hosting, anyone can join your game whenever they want.
To join a CS2 server, you will need to launch the game and navigate to Play Online. From there, you will need to press Direct Connect, then enter your server’s IP address and port. This is one of the many ways to connect to your server, but it is one of the easiest.
How to open the console in CS2?
Navigate to the Settings Menu and locate the Enable Developer Console option, then set it to “Yes”. Afterward, use the Tilde (~) key to access it! Keep in mind that this can be keybind to anything you want. Keep in mind that this isn’t your server console, as that’s located in our web-based panel.
Are the keybinds the same for CS2 servers as CS:GO?
No, some keybinds got reset. This means you’ll have to reconfigure them accordingly in the Keyboard / Mouse section of the Settings Menu, if needed. Alternatively, using the bind [Key] [Function] command in the developer console is another option. An example of this would be “bind V +lookatweapon”.
What is the tick rate of my Counter-Strike 2 server?
CS2 servers use a 64 or 128 tick rate depending on your desired setup. However, Valve developed a new sub-tick system that immediately responds to your in-game actions and memorizes them. This means any commands, shots fired, and character movements are instantaneous and saved accordingly. Additionally, everything will be more accurate while actively playing on your CS2 server, providing a smooth gameplay experience.
How to add plugins to a CS2 server?
At this time, plugins aren’t supported on CS2 servers due to SourceMod and MetaMod needing to be updated. These are “loaders” that provide modding compatibility, which will hopefully be accessible in Counter-Strike 2 later on. Once plugins are available, you can use the FTP File Access area from the server panel to begin installing them.
