Valheim is an extremely fun survival game based on Norse mythology and the religious concept of warriors on their way to Valhalla. But unfortunately, it is an early access game which many believe to be lacking in overall content. Because of this, the community has taken it upon themselves to implement cool and unique features in the form of mods! Today, we’re going to go over the most interesting and popular mods. Let’s begin.
This list is in no particular order, but will typically include the most popular mods.
Valheim Plus – ValheimPlus is a mod aimed at improving the gameplay of vanilla Valheim. It includes multiple different features that enable users to modify stats of players, buildings, and entities. This mod also offers players the ability to build anbd place with very precise and sophisticated systems compared to the base building system. This along with UI tweaks, difficulty changes, and general improvements to gameplay.
Equipment and Quick Slots – Equipment and Quick Slots is a mod that gives equipped items their own dedicated inventory slots along with three more hotkeyable quick slots. With this mod you will never lose gear on death, unlock better gamepad support, and can secure your items even if accidental uninstalls happen due to errors.
First Person View – First Person View is a mod that allows the player to play Valheim in first person rather than third person. Just install this mod and then zoom all the way in to go into first person mode. The goal of this mod is to incorporate a new viewtype while retaining the original feel of the game as much as possible.
Unrestricted Portals – Unrestricted Portals is a client-side mod that unlocks the ability to take any item through portals. The mod is extremely customizable, allowing players to restrict, unrestrict, or add multipliers for every item using configuration options. With this mod you can make every item teleportable, unteleportable, or adjust individual items.
BetterUI – BetterUI is a mod that updates the game UI with a few subtle edits. With this mod, you are able to edit and select what updates you want to use. The main idea behind this mod as put by the creator is to make the interface of Valheim more easier to understand while slowly adding new things to the mod. Suggestions are also accepted to improve the mod.
This is like the Inventory Tweaks of Valheim. It needs to be in vanilla!
Clock – Clock is a simple but highly configurable mod that displays the date and time of the world. With this mod you can set the clock’s position on your screen, font, size of the clock text, color/transparancy of the text, a hotkey to toggle the clock, the time format, and so much more. This is one of those quality of life mods that you just forget is not a part of the base game.

Welp, that’s my list! I did my best to include most of what the Valheim community considers to be the best mods in the game. Valheim is very similar to Minecraft in that the most popular mods include a variety of different experiences from simple fixes that we can’t live without to full on new experiences. In any case, I hope you found a new mod to try out, and have a great day!
