Overview
When owning a 7 Days to Die dedicated server, drawing players’ focus is important for attracting new players. While there are many ways to achieve this, one of the most notable is through the server description. Whether you reiterate the server name, add a few rules, or any other information, this can bring new players and help them know what to expect. In addition to this, the description can be upgraded with HTML color codes, allowing you to completely change how your server appears to the passing eye. Changing your description is as simple as adjusting a text field when using Apex Hosting, so we have created this tutorial to guide you through the setup process.
Adding a Description
- Navigate to the Apex Server Panel, then stop the server.
- In the left-hand menu, enter the
Customizations
tab. - Here, locate the
Server Description
text field. - Within the text field, enter whichever information you wish to use.
- Afterwards, return to the main panel page.
- Restart the server to load the changes.
Adding Color Codes
In addition to adding text to a description, color codes can also be added to allow the text to “pop”.
- Visit the HTML Color Picker website.
- Using the page, select the color you wish to add.
- Under the color, copy the 6-digit code after the
#
symbol. - In the customizations page, add the code between brackets
- Place the code(s) where you wish the colors to begin.
- Like before, restart the server to load up the changes.

Viewing the Description In-Game
With these newest changes added, you can launch 7 Days to Die on your computer, then visit the server browser area. Simply locate and select your server, which will then display the description on the right-hand side.
In addition, if you added color formatting, that will also change the description found in-game, easily allowing it to pop out and attract the attention of any players who are browsing for a server to join.
Common Issues
My description does not appear:
If the description is not appearing on your server, the server may not recognize it properly. First, ensure the description is exactly what you prefer, then restart the server once more. If issues still occur after this, close 7 Days to Die and relaunch it on your own computer. This can clear any issues, allowing you to locate and check the description once again.
The color codes are just text in the description:
If the color codes you set are just appearing as part of the description, this can often be caused by the formatting not being detected properly. When adding the colors to the text field, ensure the 6-digit code is surrounded by square brackets [ ]
on either side. If the brackets are not added or only appear on one side, the server may not recognize it and simply include the digits as part of the text. Once you ensure the brackets are added on both sides, restart the server for the changes to take place.
