When playing vanilla Minecraft, adventuring and exploration is a large part of the experience. As time progresses, however, these same adventures may become tiresome and lead to a desire for new experiences. Introducing Vault Hunters, a modpack dedicated to completely revamping your adventure experience through dangerous and one-of-a-kind dungeons to obtain loot, abilities, and more. Installing and getting started with Vault Hunters can be confusing for unfamiliar players, so we have created this Apex Hosting guide to ease you through the setup process.
Vault Hunters is a very popular modpack with over 255 thousand downloads for the 1.16.x versions. The pack is owned by skall85_Dev, maintained by purpleiseverything, and authored by HellFirePvP, ScaldaYT, and iskall85. In this modpack, your end goal is to collect 25 unique artifacts through mysterious and unique vaults to gain access to a final vault. Using a procedurally generated world, no vault will ever be the same. Will you have what it takes to survive the depths of The Vault?

How to Get Started
Unlike most modpacks, The Vault location is not available immediately. Instead, you must first play through the world and defeat the Ender Dragon to obtain access to End cities.
Before you can access the vault, you must first craft a Vault Altar. This is achieved with the following items:
- 1 Diamond Block
- 4 Obsidian Blocks
- 4 Purpur Blocks
Additionally, you must search the world’s resources to find a Vault Rock Ore deep underground, which is rarer than diamonds.
First Vault Crystal
Once obtained, place the Vault Altar down, then right-click it with the Vault Rock. This will now show you a completely personalized recipe required to make a Vault Crystal.
Gather your items, then throw them onto the altar until they are marked complete one-by-one. Afterwards, press and use a button next to the altar to create your very own Vault Crystal.
Now that you have your vault crystal, you will want to use blackstone to create the normal portal shape, similar to a nether portal.
Once you are ready, use the Vault Crystal on the portal, which will ignite and announce its creation. Make sure you are fully geared up before entering, as danger will lurk around every corner.
Upon entering your vault, you will be welcomed with a 25 minute timer, as well as modifiers that will display in the chat.
These modifiers can alter the strength, mob spawns, and even the loot inside. You will have 25 minutes to either complete the dungeon or leave.
Each room can be vastly different. From beautiful trees to deep depths. Monsters can roam around every corner and chase you down.
Make sure to fight for your life, as there is no natural health regeneration inside of The Vault. Additionally, any death will result in a loss of any items found within The Vault.
Rooms can also contain various chests, scaled by rarity. These may obtain food items, ingots, and other modded loots.
If you are feeling bold, altar chests will allow you to deposit your health in order to obtain increased rewards. Make sure to have some potions or golden apples however, as the health will not regenerate normally.
Obelisks and Boss
Within the 25-minute time, your goal is to find all of the obelisk pillars throughout the dungeon. These are marked with a particle beacon, allowing you to easily find one within a room.
Once all of the obelisks have been found, the boss will spawn at the last-activated pillar. Defeating the boss will complete the dungeon, returning you to the overworld with all the loot that was earned, as well as a boss crate of more items.
With that, you should now know how to install and get started with the Vault Hunters modpack. With a procedurally-generated dungeon filled with danger, the challenge of collecting all of the artifacts will loom above you. With customizable difficulties, randomized modifiers, and a time limit, the Vault Hunters modpack will keep you busy and fighting for your life.
I get an error when joining the server:
Often, if a player is unable to join the server, it is because the modpack isn’t properly installed on their own computer. Ensure you are using the official Vault Hunters modpack to ensure all of the required mods are installed.
My server is stuck loading:
This often happens when a mod is removed from an existing world. You can force the world to load by going to the server console and entering
/fml confirm. That should then load the world with the missing mods removed.
Modded items aren’t spawning in the server:
If the mods appear in the creative menu but are not properly appearing on the server, it often means the server is not properly using the modpack. Ensure that the server was switched to Vault Hunters through the panel and restarted to load it up.
