There are tons of smaller details, such as quality of life improvements too. The Minecraft 1.21.5 update, Spring to Life, released on March 25th of this year and marks the first game drop of 2025. Biome Variant Mobs
As we’ve previously seen before, there are biome-specific animals found in the Overworld. With this recent update, players will be able to find new chickens, cows, pigs around the world. Each one will have their own unique attributes and cannot be found elsewhere. There’s even changes to sheep, with some colored wool being more common in different biomes. These features add a bit more immersion and realism to Minecraft, which is perfect for farmers!
Decorative Blocks
Nature in Minecraft is vast and wide, with tons of decorative blocks found laying around. The new ones from Spring to Life include Leaf Litter, Wildflowers, Firefly Bushes, Cactus Flowers, and Dry Grass. These add ambiance to your world and explorations, while also being a great way to decorate your base’s exterior or interior – whichever floats your boat! Our personal favorite is the firefly bush, which is beautiful at nighttime with shimmers of light coming from it.
Cartographer & Wandering Trader
Another major change with the Minecraft 1.21.5 update revolves around the Cartographer and Wandering Trader. The first villagers now offer maps to different village types, jungle temples, and witch huts. This makes your adventures easier, only if you have emeralds to trade with! As for the Wandering Trader, they have an improved set of items to purchase and sell. This is a great change, as players in Minecraft always dismissed this villager due to bad trades. Now you can easily farm for emeralds, get the items you want, and so much more.
New Spawn Eggs
In the past, the spawn eggs in Minecraft looked too similar from each other – causing confusion. With the 1.21.5 update, all of that changes! Each spawn egg is now designed to resemble their mob, such as the creeper having its iconic face on the egg. This adds a bit of fun to the game, along with making each one feel unique and special. Enter creative mode and begin checking them out, there’s a lot of them! If you want to use them for decorations, you can do that by placing them in an item frame.
World Generation
The Overworld gets a massive change with the introduction of fallen trees, leaf particles, and dead leaves on the ground. This may not seem big at first glance, but definitely changes the landscape all over the world. These features create an immersive environment that feels alive, rather than being stale in previous updates. This really speaks to the Spring of Life spirit! The only downside is that it means more blocks need to be removed if you’re clearing space for a house.
Minecraft Live Updates to Come!
The first Minecraft Live of 2025 finished and reveals awesome upcoming features. These include a new type of ghast, which can be mounted so players can soar through the skies of the Overworld. This is one major feature that has never been seen before and comes to a shock in the community. Players can build large sky bases while riding one of these new mobs, along with exploring the vast biomes below.

Dried Ghast: A new block found in the Nether.
Ghastling: Created by rehydrating a dried ghast in the Overworld.
Happy Ghast: A friendly version of the ghast that ghastlings grow into.
Rideable Happy Ghast: Can be harnessed and mounted, allowing up to three players to fly together.
Building on Happy Ghast: Players can construct structures while riding, making sky builds easier in Survival Mode.
Player Locator Bar: A new UI feature to help players find each other in-game.
