Overview
When playing a Terraria server, using freshly generated worlds may become monotonous over time. Luckily, Terraria servers allow you to upload a custom world, so you can play any existing world. Whether you use it to play minigames, use a fancy world from online, or simply using your singleplayer world, all of this is possible with a Terraria dedicated server. Uploading a custom world can be tedious if you are unfamiliar with the instructions, so we have created this Apex Hosting guide to ease you through the upload process.
Locating your World
- From your computer, navigate to the following location:
- Once in this folder, look for your desired world files.
- Keep this file location open, as they will be needed shortly.
Windows: Documents\My Games\Terraria\Worlds
MacOS: ~/Library/Application Support/Terraria/Worlds
Linux: ~/.local/share/Terraria/Worlds
Uploading the Custom World
- Navigate to your Apex Server Panel, then stop the server.
- Proceed to the
FTP File Access
, then log in. - From here, navigate to the
saves
folder, then theWorlds
folder. - Press
Upload
in the top-left, then drag + drop the world files into the right-hand side. - Once the files are all at 100%, return to the main panel page.
Loading the World
- Scroll down the main panel page to the
World
section. - Press the
Change World
button, then enter the name to match the files. - Press
Change World
again to confirm, then restart the server.
This should now load up the server using your desired world!
Common Issues
The server keeps generating a new world:
There are many reasons that this may occur, although a common cause is that the upload process was not properly completed, ensure that the .wld files are uploaded directly into the /saves/Worlds/ folder, as well as setting the exact name in the panel, not including the .wld ending of the file.
I cannot join the server after adding the world:
Oftentimes, this occurs if the world or your character was created in Journey mode. If your character is in Journey mode, create a new character with a different difficulty. If the character is in a non-Journey mode, create a new Journey character and try again.
