Roses are red, violets are blue, another week passes and a blog for you too. While Minecraft has its fair share of mundane red roses, sometimes they just don’t cut it as special enough. And while Lily of the Valley surely makes itself known, there’s another obscure flower that is sought after. The Wither Rose. Today, we’re going to go over the Wither Rose, all the related info, and how you can get yourself one. Let’s begin.
The Wither Rose is a unique flower with negative properties. But what does this mean exactly? Basically, it is one of the only plants that hurts mobs and players. When any player or mob touches the Wither Rose it will be granted the wither effect, a status effect similar to poison. This is the same status effect inflicted by Wither skeletons and Withers.
They were first added in 1.14 Java Edition, and act as a non-solid plant type block. Despite its arcane nature, it is still flammable and even renewable.
First thing’s first, make sure you aren’t playing in peaceful difficulty. Unfortunately, the Wither Rose cannot be obtained in peaceful. Alright, now that you’re gaming in dangerous territory you’re going to need to spawn in the Wither. The Wither? Yeah, this rose can only be obtained in the most extreme of circumstances. The Wither must kill a mob.
Each time the Wither kills a mob, a Wither Rose will be dropped. Anything from cows, alpacas, pigs, or any mob you can think of can be used. This is a cruel and unjust way of doing things, but sadly there is no other way. The more mobs that die, the more Wither Roses you will be left with after the carnage.
Now that you’ve finished off the Wither (I’m sure it was effortless) the Wither Rose has a few uses. Beyond the novelty of simply being a plant that applies the wither effect, the Wither Rose actually does do a couple things. Wither Roses make a great semi-automatic mob farm. Since entities take damage when walking through the roses, they can be placed as the killing area in a mob farm. Oddly enough, these roses can also be pollinated and bred to bees. While feeding the bees, the flower itself will not have any effect, but they will still get damaged from the rose when pollinating it.
The Wither Rose can also be crafted into black dye. Along with cactus and sweet berry bushes, it is one of the only plants to damage mobs, and it is the only plant in the game that emits particles.
That’s pretty much it! The Wither Rose is fairly simple, but extremely difficult to obtain. You basically have to let the Wither wreck havoc on the Overworld, especially if you want multiple roses. In any case, I hope that this blog helped you learn something new. Have a great day!
