Starting a The Forest server is not as simple as installing some software. These servers require dedicated server software that allow outside connections for any player. This allows you to install mods, change the map, control the server settings, and much more! Without a dedicated server, you will be relying on random servers in the server browser every time you wish to play. With a The Forest Server from Apex Hosting, any player can join your server whenever they please.
Before you can connect to a The Forest server, you must first generate a Steam Login Token. To do this, visit the Game Server Account page and log in. When creating a new token, set the app ID to 242760 for the forest, then create and copy the token. From here, log into the Apex Server Panel, then visit the Customizations tab. Paste the token in the matching field, then restart the server. When this is done, launch the forest and select Multiplayer > Join Game from the main menu. In the left-hand menu, select Dedicated (Internet) and find your server. Press Join to bring up an additional menu, then press Join again when you’re ready to connect.
How to Set a Server Password for The Forest?
To set a server password in The Forest, first log into your Apex panel and stop the server. In the left-hand menu, select the Customization tab. In this area you can find the Server Password text field, which may be blank or have an existing password. Simply fill in the password you wish to use, then restart the server on the main page. When you try to connect to the server, the password must be entered before any player can connect.
How to Add Server Admins in The Forest?
To gain access to admin commands in The Forest, first login into the Apex Hosting panel page, then stop the server. In the left-hand menu, locate and enter the Customization page. Here you can find the Admin Password section and the accompanying text field. Enter a secure password in the text box that will be difficult for other players to guess. When done, return to the main panel page and restart the server. Upon connecting to the server, you can enter the admin password before finalizing the connection to gain access to in-game admin commands.
