When hosting your own Valheim server, you might want to consider becoming an admin. This enables you to have access to various commands that can help manage your players and world. The process to do this is straightforward, but newcomers to the scene might be unfamiliar with it. Don’t worry – we’ve created this Apex Hosting guide to show you how to set admins on a Valheim server and showcase various commands 👏
Finding Player IDs
In order for you to assign admin permissions to an account on your Valheim server, you must find the Player ID. When a user connects, their information is displayed in the Console. You can check that to find their Player ID, but you also need to check the Platform Identifier. For those on PC, you can press F2 while connected to the server to display this information.
Platform Identifiers:
V_for SteamX_for XboxS_for PlayStationN_for NintendoA_for GameCenter
An example would be: V_76561198371917908.
Giving Admin Access
- Head towards your Apex server panel and stop the server.
- Navigate to
Server Configuration > Config Fileson the left.
- Select Valheim Admin List (adminlist.txt) from the list.
- Create a new line and add the Platform Identifier + Player ID.
- Click Save at the top and start up the server.

Final Thoughts
Admins take real moderation weight off your shoulders. Once trusted players can kick, ban, and manage the server themselves, small conflicts get resolved before they spread through the community. Update the admin list whenever your roster changes, and double-check the console is enabled so the commands work the moment they are needed.
