The Sift is the first new dimension in Minecraft since 2012, but its debut in Minecraft Dungeons 2 raises a major question. How much spin off content will actually cross over to vanilla Java and Bedrock? While Dungeons 2 offers an early preview, history shows Mojang heavily filters features before bringing them to the main game. In this Apex Hosting article, we’ll take a look at what’s confirmed, what remains speculative, and what to expect in 2027.

What is Confirmed?

Here is what we know is 100% confirmed for The Sift in Vanilla Minecraft:

  1. Confirmed Mobs: The Blub, a small and friendly creature, is officially confirmed to migrate from Dungeons II into base Minecraft.
  2. Confirmed Biomes: Two biomes have been explicitly named for vanilla: Meadows (Singer’s Meadow) and Carapace.
  3. Hazardous Fluid: A vibrant, hazardous red and blue liquid known as Ichor.
  4. Shifting Tides Mechanic: Environmental forces that dynamically affect movement, soul energy, and player positioning.

As of right now, the only way for you to experience The Sift in Minecraft is playing Dungeons 2. The whole premise is that three specific illagers stumbled upon the dimension and harvested soul energy, then later on formed the Illager High Council to wreak havoc in the Overworld. Due to the game being an ARPG, there will be elements that are definitely not coming to Vanilla Minecraft.

Dungeons 2 expands The Sift into a sprawling realm with lots of contact:

  1. Additional Regions: In addition to Singer’s Meadow and Carapace, the game features regions like the Echo Den and Lullaby Hills.
  2. Hostile Mobs: Packed with aggressive mobs and bosses, including the Bearded Sifter, Tall Sifter, Sprout, Licker, Sculk Slasher, Sculk Dancer, Harmonizer, and the massive Sculk Monstrosity.
  3. Passive Mobs: Home to gentle wildlife that includes the glowing Blub, drifting Trill, plantlike Seedling, Nester, and curious Licker.
  4. Dimensional Mechanics: Players first enter The Sift via Rifts (tears in the fabric of space), along with the Deep Dark portal.

Will Dungeons 2 Content be in Minecraft Vanilla?

If we take a look at Minecraft Dungeons 1, a lot of content never crossed over to Vanilla. With this in mind, we can expect something similar with Dungeons 2. The catch is that Mojang advertised The Sift and encourages players to try it out, so you could assume that a lot of what’s shown will come to Vanilla Minecraft.

However, the vast majority of content in Dungeons 2 will not crossover to Vanilla. This includes all the unique items, equipment, abilities, and more. The only difference being that The Sift is completely brand-new and is likely a “preview” of what to expect. There will be elements that stay in Dungeons 2.

More specifically, we could see a curated selection of mobs from Dungeon 2’s Sift dimension in Vanilla. This is complete speculation, but it makes sense and follows their track record. Either we get a few or almost all of the mobs upon release for The Sift in Vanilla Minecraft. The same could be said for biomes, blocks, or dimension-specific items.

What to Expect in Minecraft Bedrock & Java

As previously mentioned, there will definitely be some crossover from Dungeons 2 to Vanilla. The main question now is if everything we see will be in the main game. Here’s what we can expect:

  1. Ancient City Portal: The large frame found in Ancient Cities, constructed from reinforced deepslate, shares deep lore ties with Sculk, soul energy, and Deep Dark portals. It is widely expected to serve as the long awaited entry gate into The Sift.
  2. Blocks & Vegetation: New stone variants (orange, red, and blue carapace structures) along with new flora and fluid will heavily expand building palettes.
  3. New Mobs: Some of the hostile and passive mobs found in The Sift, such as Sprout, Tall Stiffer, Blub, and Nester. There could be others, but these are a secure bet.
  4. Special Items: Because of the new dimension, we can almost certainly promise new items crafted from materials found in The Sift will become available.
  5. New Mechanics: Singing appears to be an important part of The Sift creatures, resulting in creating new life or activating events. It can be speculated that something similar will be in Vanilla Minecraft.

When Will The Sift Release in Vanilla Minecraft?

The Sift dimension for Minecraft will be released for Bedrock & Java Edition sometime in 2027. Mojang has not confirmed an exact date, meaning it can be in Q1 or Q4. However, snapshots or previews will likely be available before the official release. You can expect that to happen either a month or few weeks before the big update.

Final Thoughts

While Minecraft Dungeons 2 provides an exciting look at The Sift, vanilla players should expect a curated survival experience in 2027 rather than a direct port. Treat the spin off as a teaser for the dimension’s lore and aesthetic, while keeping expectations grounded for what truly fits base Minecraft.
