So, Vanilla Minecraft is what most would consider to be magical in nature. We have fantasy elements such as enchantments and alchemy, but none of it is really fleshed out in a satisfying way. Introducing the modding community, who have taken it upon themselves to create unique and interesting magic systems in the form of awesome, awe-inspiring mods. Today, we’re going to go over the best magic mods in Minecraft. Let’s begin.
This list is in no particular order, and is completely based on my own opinion and experiences playing with these mods.
Electroblob’s Wizardry -This is a magic mod that doesn’t come with the hassle that most magic mods do. Freeze skeletons solid, engulf zombies in slime, pull creepers into an interdimensional vortex, and also wear cool hats. Unlike most magic mods, there are very few crafting recipes and no complex structures – instead, you progress by exploring and fighting. By finding spell books, wands and scrolls, visiting wizard towers and ancient runes you too can become a wizard of legend!
With over 172 spells in wizardry and counting, each one is totally unique. If that isn’t enough spells for you, the mod is designed for more spells to be easily added via add-on mods, of which there are many. Out there is a world of upgrades, armour, and special items all waiting to explore, but you should discover those for yourself.
Botania – What is in essence a tech mod, Botania has the unique theme of natural magic, revolving around flora. Of course, that isn’t a hard limitation. This mod has a lot of different items, spells, and functions that are all incredibly detailed. In this mod you can make many complex structures that have different uses to help you progress in the mod. Things like gateways and mana pools allow you to upgrade your starter items in a process called trading.
This mod even has its own awesome boss battle with its own epic metal song that plays during the fight! Slay the Guardian of Gaia to receive extremely powerful abilities that make you absolutely overpowered. My favorite item is the Key of the King’s Law, which summons numerous weapons in the sky that all fly to attack whatever you please, but there’s a few others as well. I highly recommend checking out Botania if you want a long term mod that rewards you for your efforts.
Ice and Fire – This is a mod which hopes to add dragons in a proper way. Although this mod is not necessarily a magic mod, it is definitely inspired by Lord of The Rings and classic fantasy. In my opinion, that is the progenitor of most iterations of the classic magic system, with wizards and spells.
This mod takes a more medieval approach to its magical structures and mobs. Dragons are incredibly strong, and will easily take you out from hundreds of blocks away. If you try to get away, they’ll tear apart everything you know and love without mercy. It’s brutal! Trolls, Cyclops, Sirens, and more roam the land and can be interacted with in distinct ways. Ice and Fire is a mod that truly changes the world to fit its setting, but that’s a good thing. Check this mod out if you want a real challenge.
Mystical Agriculture – Have you ever been bothered by the fact that you can’t farm literally everything? Say no more! Mystical Agriculture allows you to grow your resources with crops, regardless of the resource. Mob drops, materials, tools, armor, and possibly more! Basically, this is a magical mod based around forming seeds for whatever resource you would like to farm, and then get farming.
This is a pretty small mod, so there isn’t much to say, but if you ever wanted to make typically non-renewable resources, renewable, this is the mod! I don’t recommend this mod for modpack players, as it would get stupidly overpowered very quickly, but it can be very fun farming Netherite.
Thaumcraft – Thaumcraft is an extremely popular mod all about drawing magic from physical objects in the form of Essentia and reshaping it to perform miracles. This mod adds new mobs, trees, flora, ores, and much more. This is a large-scale mod that wants you to immerse yourself and become a thaumaturge! What is a thaumaturge? I have no idea!
Research new crafting recipes, scan the stars with advanced astrology, learn more about the world around you. Develop theories, research fundamentals, and finally establish alchemy! The alchemy system is the reward for your efforts, and will be the best way to show off all that you’ve learned. Everything is intentionally vague in this explanation as it should be! This mod is fairly complex, so if you’re not looking to use your head, stay away!
Welp, those are my favorites! Magic mods in Minecraft are very creative, and are some of the best examples of the talent that the modded community has. From humongous dragons to classic wizards and spells, there is something for everyone. In any case, I hope that you found a new mod to check out in your next play session. Have a wonderful day.
