Good evening and welcome to our lovely weekly news blog! We have a relatively decent haul this week, so let’s hop straight into it, starting with Minecraft! In regards to the changes to community guidelines and the whole situation, things have gotten worse.
If you haven’t been keeping up with Minecraft, here’s the basics of the situation. For version 1.19.1 and all future versions, players can now be reported and banned for breaking community guidelines. But why is this an issue? Bedrock Edition has had these community guidelines set since forever ago. Well, the Java community has not responded to this decision kindly at all, and have been posting videos, community feedback, and more in protest of the changes. The modding community has even worked on and completed plugins/mods that impede on Microsoft’s ability to trace chat messages back to user’s accounts, and most content creators are actually in favor of using these options. Overall, Mojang and Microsoft are not on good terms with the community, and this problem has only been exacerbated by Mojang/Microsoft doubling down on the decision. In a blog posted by them on June 29th, they clarified what could get a player banned, and why they are making the changes. Mojang has decided to take an approach that clarifies that all private servers and their players have already agreed to follow the set guidelines, and that they are simply now enforcing them.
Whether these changes are good for the future of Minecraft or not, we can’t really tell. But what is clear is that the community backlash is real and apparent. Hopefully, the divide between developer and player can be lessened over time.
Happy Midsummer! For a short time, a Valeheim event celebrating both Midsummer and the summer solstice has begun! A celebration which has existed in the north for quite some time, Midsummer has made its way in-game!
This year, tons of new things have been added for the occasion. A new flower crown and colorful banners make the summer even more festive, and ou’re sure to have tons of fun with them. Also, the game has been updated with the Steam Clode fix. This will hopefully lead to smoother game experiences for everyone. Lastly, the developers want to clarify that Valheim will have full crossplay support with Steam players.
That’s the week! Not too much going on, but still worth reporting. Minecraft and the Minecraft community continue to have heated discussions on politics and community moderation. I hope they come to a conclusion soon. I personally will be fine with whatever is decided upon, so long as both sides agree. Next, Valheim shows us a beautiful celebration for a holiday I’ve never heard of (besides that one weird movie) which is cool. Not much else so with that being said, have a great day!
