Villager Recruits Minecraft Mod
in Mods

Overview
Minecraft villages may not have too many activities for some players to enjoy, as there’s only trading and loot. If you’re wanting to enhance your in-game experience, then consider using mods to introduce new features. One of these is known as Villager Recruits, providing you the means to build an army of NPCs with varying classes. Whether you want a nomad horseman or shielders, you’re given lots of possibilities with this mod. There’s even a menu for changing your villager’s equipment, while also an inventory for extra items such as golden apples. Players that have recruits can easily control them at any point, meaning you’re granted full control over them. Setting this up on your Minecraft server to play with friends is easily done on our panel, but may confuse newcomers to the modding scene. Due to this, we’ve created this Apex Hosting guide to show you how to install and use Villager Recruit in Minecraft.

Getting Started
After joining the server, you’ll want to begin by collecting resources to craft basic tools. It’s encouraged to have at least iron level equipment before trying to make an army of recruits. Additionally, players must have emeralds to hire villagers for your adventures. This means you’ll want to explore mountainous caves and other areas in the Minecraft world for them. Afterward, locating villages and hiring recruits is the next step. This process itself may differ depending on what mod version you’ve selected, as there could be a specific block to help you with it. However, the latest versions of Villager Recruits don’t include this feature. Due to this, we’ll showcase the universal way to build an army in Minecraft with the following subsections below to get you started.
Locating Villages
As hinted in the mod’s name, players must find villages in Minecraft before hiring recruits. This can be achieved by simply exploring the environment in-game, but can also be done with cheats or operator permissions to run the /locate command. Regardless of your method, this is critical for using the mod in Minecraft. Unfortunately, there’s only one of these characters per village. This means you’ll need to constantly find others to build an army.
Hiring New Recruits
Unlike normal villagers, recruits will have normal player models for their skins while holding equipment. They’ll also have a nametag above their character, making them easy to locate. While having emeralds in your inventory, simply right-click
a recruit to open its GUI menu. This reveals their health, attack damage, movement speed, and cost. If you’re wanting to recruit the villager, then click the Hire button and your emeralds will be removed accordingly. Keep in mind that the cost varies depending on the recruit’s level and class, as there are other variants available.
Recruit Controls
After the successful recruitment of a villager, they’ll send you an in-game chat message. However, they won’t immediately follow your orders, as you must command them accordingly. This is done by right-clicking them, forcing them to hold their position, follow you, or wander around. However, you can hold down R
on your keyboard to reveal a menu for this task. There are several kinds of them, such as being naturally aggressive against enemies, raising shields, strategic attacks, and more. We encourage you to familiarize yourself with these options in-game.
Instead of using the other control methods, you can try shift + right-clicking
the recruit to open their individual settings. These include movement, position, attack, and inventory aspects. Whether you want them to have diamond armor or a new weapon, there’s plenty you can do. For instance, players can also give extra items like golden apples or potions to recruits in their standalone inventory. This is a wonderful way to increase your companion’s efficiency during combat or exploration.
Building an Army
Building an army is a challenging task, as you must find several recruits in villages throughout the Minecraft world. Whenever you do obtain enough characters for this, make sure to give them strong equipment and strategic resources. Otherwise, they may not be able to level up and gain other advantages like increased health. Remember, all recruits have progression and experience points that you can manage. Adding strong equipment in their inventories is the best method to keep them safe, while also enhancing their combat abilities.
Battle Gameplay
While engaging in combat with hostile mobs, your army will attack everything in sight. However, this only occurs if you’ve configured every recruit accordingly. Remember, they have different and unique settings like being neutral or aggressive. Once the fighting begins, all characters will strategically face off incoming attacks to protect you. If there are many recruits, it can quickly become chaotic. This comes in handy when battling the Ender Dragon, Wither, or other bosses if you’ve included additional mods.
Configuration
If you’re unsatisfied with the number of recruits in villages or anything else related to the mod, consider tweaking its configuration. This is done by accessing a file through the FTP area in your server panel, as we have a convenient file editor at your disposal. Whether you want to change starting recruit values or their equipment, you’re given many options to edit. With this in mind, you may want to follow the steps below to begin reviewing and customizing your experience.
- Navigate to the
FTP File Access
area and use your login credentials accordingly. - Proceed to locate and enter the
config
directory from the list. - Afterward, find the recruits-common.toml file and click
Edit
to the right of it. - While in the editor, make your desired changes and press
Save
at the top when finished. - Return to the main server panel and click
Restart
to apply these edits.
Common Issues
If you’re completely unable to join the server after a successful installation on the panel, then consider checking your launcher’s configuration. Remember, you must have Forge enabled with the Villager Recruits file uploaded in the local mods directory for this to work properly. Without doing any of this, you and others alike won’t be able to join the Minecraft server. However, this situation may be caused by a failed installation on the panel. If the situation persists, consider allocating more memory to your launcher or contact our Support Team for additional assistance.
If you’re unable to locate any recruits in the Minecraft world, then this could indicate an issue with the server panel. With this in mind, double check you’ve selected Forge with the correct version in the Game File. Additionally, confirm Villager Recruits has successfully uploaded into the mods folder via FTP. These solutions should resolve the issue, but you may have to generate another world to see if that helps. Otherwise, you may want to enter creative mode and check for the recruit spawn eggs to see if everything is working properly. If this is the case, then you’ll need to explore more villages to find them.
