Overview

Players enjoying Vanilla Minecraft may want more features to play around with, such as magic or upgraded villages. These changes are primarily done by using modifications, which can be combined together in a large collection of them known as a modpack. If you’re wanting to spice up your Minecraft gameplay, then consider trying out FTB HermitPack. This is a small modpack that introduces you to magic, new mobs, a wide variety of resources, and many other features. Playing with this pack provides you with a brand new experience in Minecraft, but doesn’t entirely change the game’s appearance. Setting this up to play with friends is quickly done on our panel, as it comes preinstalled for your convenience. Although, newcomers to the hosting scene may be unfamiliar with our system, leading to possible confusion or issues. With this in mind, we’ll walk you through the process to install and play FTB HermitPack on your Minecraft server in this Apex Hosting tutorial.
 

Summary

As hinted in the modpack’s name, the Feed The Beast (FTB) team created and published it for anyone to enjoy. Its original release date was in late-2016 for Minecraft Forge 1.10.2. Many famous YouTubers and Streamers have used HermitPack, making it an extremely popular pack to try out. The main premise is to survive in an enhanced version of Minecraft by using magic, stronger equipment, complex machines, and more. Build and explore all its features with friends to have a wonderful time.
 

Client Installation

Before trying out the HermitPack modpack, players will need to install the official FTB launcher to run it. This allows you to quickly install and use many packs, which is easy to do. The following instructions guide you through this process.

1. Navigate to FTB App and choose your operating system to download the launcher.
   
2. After it’s installed, open the app and log into your Minecraft account.
3. Once logged in, click Browse on the left and enter “FTB HermitPack” in the text box.
   
4. Press the Download button when it appears, then click Install on the next page.
   
5. Wait for this to reach 100%, then select the Go to Instance button on the prompt.
   
6. Afterward, you may begin playing the modpack to confirm everything works.

Server Installation

Due to the modpack’s design, you may want to consider creating a new Server Profile before installing it through the panel. This provides you with a new FTP directory to store all the game files, avoiding possible conflict from pre-existing data. However, this isn’t required to install FTB HermitPack on your server. Besides this, follow along below to begin this process to play with friends.

1. Head towards your Apex server panel, then locate the Game File area down below.
   
2. Click on the currently selected option, revealing a dropdown menu.
3. Proceed to type “HermitPack” in the text box, then press it once found.
   
4. In the following prompts, click Change Version, Create New World, and Restart Now.
   
5. Join the server after it loads with your installed HermitPack instance from the FTB App.

Getting Started

Once you’ve connected to the server, you’ll be greeted with a Teams request in-chat. This allows you and friends to be in the same party, which means you wouldn’t do damage to each other. Simply click through the prompts accordingly to get in a team. Besides this, the environment around you may appear slightly different, depending on where you spawned. The vast majority of biomes and structures will resemble Vanilla Minecraft, but with some enhancements like more buildings in villages. Other than this, players will notice the JEI menu on the right-hand side of their inventory screen. This acts as a way to view all crafting recipes, which helps you understand what materials are required for all the possible items.

There’s also some starter items in your inventory, which are Materials & You, OpenComputers Manual, Digital Guide, and The One Probe. The first three will greatly help you, as they’re interactable books to help you learn more about this modpack. For example, the first one introduces you to creating stronger tools and unique blocks. Although, the last item is only for controlling tooltips that appear when looking at entities or materials.

We strongly recommend keeping all these books for later, as they will come in handy once you’ve progressed enough.
 

Tinkers’ Construct

Getting started with the FTB HermitPack involves you using the Tinkers’ Construct mod, which provides you with resources needed to craft gear. There are four main stations you need beforehand: Part Builder, Tool Station, Crafting Station, and a Stencil Table. These require you to have Blank Patterns, as they act like blueprints for your weapon or tool.

 
Make sure to create individual parts, then use the stations to combine them into your desired piece of equipment. The Materials & You book provides players with more information about this modification and its features.
 

Stronger Mobs

As you continue exploring the world, regardless of the dimension, all hostile mobs will have the chance to spawn with armor and/or weapons. These will constantly change and be randomized, leading to powerful combinations in some cases. This is a quick and easy way to obtain valuable gear early on, especially if you get lucky with the item drops.

 
However, you’ll want to have some armor beforehand since some mobs are more powerful than others. Besides this, there are also new creatures in the Overworld to enjoy, such as owls during the nighttime.
 

Unique Caves

Collecting resources around the world is now a lot easier, as there are unique cave designs for players to encounter. These tend to be near bedrock, but have a wide variety of mineral ores to mine. Whether you’re hunting for diamonds to create stronger armor or emeralds to trade with villagers, almost everything is available in these caves. Fortunately, it’ll be fairly easy to find them in your world since they’re common. This grants everyone the ability to quickly obtain valuable ores, leading to powerful equipment or other creations.
 

Rare Minerals

In all caves, unique or not, there will be tons of new ores to find. These include Osmium, Silver, Galena, Tin, Copper, Uranium, and many more. Whether you’re collecting them for armor, weapons, tools, or needed materials for machinery, there’s plenty of uses to explore. However, some ores will be common while others will be rarer, so make sure to keep an eye out for valuable kinds. Otherwise, villagers may have them in trade offers if you get lucky.

Better Villages

FTB HermitPack doesn’t completely change how villages appear, as they only add a few extra buildings. Although, there are plenty of new villagers to encounter. For example, you may stumble upon a Sage that has cheap trades for emeralds. Other NPCs may offer exchanges for unique items, such as ebony planks or wrenches. These trades can be a huge help early on, especially if you get lucky and find some powerful equipment in lootable chests.

With this in mind, consider using seeds to generate a new world that has villages nearby.
 

Unique Items

In dungeons, mineshafts, nether fortresses, and other structures, there are chests possibly containing valuable items. These vastly range from magical wands to mobile storage units. For instance, an Ender Wing Prime item allows players to instantly teleport to their home. This only applies to those with established bed spawn points, making this a powerful tool.

Another example is a Heart Container, giving you extra HP that’ll stay permanently. Unfortunately, you can only get ten additional hearts for your character. We strongly recommend exploring unique structures to find these extremely beneficial items, as they’ll give you more options to play around with in-game.
 

Industrial Crafting

Later on during your gameplay, trying out features from the Industrial Crafting 2 mod becomes possible. This allows players to build complicated machines to generate power for all sorts of activities, such as sorting items in chests or constantly producing food. Almost all these contraptions need Rubber and specific parts, which can be obtained from villages, loot chests, or by mining mineral ores.

Although, scientific tools like a Mining Laser are also possible with this modification. Make sure to have enough resources so you can quickly become overpowered in equipment and machinery.
 

Blood Magic

Instead of using technology all throughout your adventures, consider tapping into the power of Blood Magic. This feature in the modpack gives you and others the ability to obtain strong weapons or armor. Additionally, unique tools with transformation powers can be crafted too. On the other hand, doing rituals can be entertaining since it changes day into night with lightning strikes all over the place. This implements an interesting aspect in your server that anyone can enjoy. Combining magic with technology can truly give you the best outcome in-game.
 

Common Issues

Cannot Join Server
In cases where players are unable to join the server, ensure everyone is using the correct IP Address:Port or Subdomain. This information can be located and confirmed through the panel, as it’s important to enter everything properly for the connection. Besides this, using an outdated version of the modpack can result in the same situation. Make sure all impacted players have the newest update for FTB HermitPack installed on its official launcher. Unfortunately, if this scenario persists and no one can join the server, then an underlying problem may be present.

FTB HermitPack isn’t Working
If you’ve suspected that the modpack isn’t working properly on the server, then double check you’ve successfully selected it from the Game File section on the panel. Afterward, restart to begin loading the pack files in-game. Although, using an existing Server Profile that has pre-existing files on it can result in FTB HermitPack being unplayable. Make sure to create a new one and redo the installation steps to see if that’ll help resolve the issue. If nothing is working, then consider manually installing the files on the server. This is a bit technical, but should get everything functional without further issues. As for client-related concerns, redownload the modpack with its latest version and try again. Alternatively, allocating more memory to the FTB App might be the best option to fix this scenario.

My Server is Lagging
Unfortunately, FTB HermitPack servers may lag due to the amount of modifications impacting the game. This can happen for a wide variety of reasons, which may make the situation worse to resolve.
