Roguelike Adventures and Dungeons 2 Server

Overview
Vanilla Minecraft is a world full of adventure, whether you visit villages or defeat bosses, there is plenty to do. Many players feel that there isn’t enough dungeon content though, especially since strongholds tend to be the only real dungeon-like structure. This is no longer the case with Roguelike Adventures and Dungeons 2, a Minecraft modpack that completely redefines the gameplay experience. Roguelike A-D 2 adds new items, bosses, massive structures, and enemies that become stronger as time goes on. Whether you team up with others or tackle your adventure solo, there’s no shortage of content to explore. With this in mind, we’ve created this Apex Hosting tutorial to help you get started.
Server-side Installation
- Navigate to the Apex server panel, then stop the server.
- Scroll down to the
Game Filesection, then open the dropdown menu.
- Search for and select
Roguelike Adventures and Dungeons 2. - Follow the prompts to change the version, then generate a new world.
- When prompted, choose to restart the server to load the modpack.
With this completed, the Roguelike A-D 2 pack will begin the installation process on your Minecraft server. This first startup can take a few minutes to generate the entire world, but once the server is marked as online, it’ll be ready to join.
Client-side Installation
Before proceeding, ensure you have downloaded and configured the CurseForge launcher for your desired operating system. Once this is done, you can continue with the modpack installation.
- From the CurseForge app, enter the
Browse Modpackstab at the top. - In the search bar near the top, search for
Roguelike Adventures. - Within the results, locate and select
Roguelike Adventures and Dungeons 2. - Press the
Installbutton in the top-right to begin the installation. - Return to the
My Modpackssection, then pressPlayon the pack once complete. - Launch the game as normal, then join the server.
How to Get Started
Starting Inventory
Upon spawning into the world, you’ll be met with a variety of differences compared to vanilla Minecraft. This includes a new minimap, listed stats, and other GUI changes on your screen. In addition to this, you’ll have many new starting items in your inventory. Some of these are a starting sword, shield, food, armor, and books. While each of these items are important, the two books will be vital throughout your time in this world.
Akashic Tome
The first of these items is the Akashic Tome. While the book appears to be relatively plain, right-clicking the book while it’s in your hand will allow you to transform it into any other guide book. This can be extremely helpful when learning about the many mods that are found within Roguelike A-D 2, including the Bestiary, Animal Dictionary, and much more. To return it to normal, left-click a block while holding the book.
Quest Book
The latter, as well as being even more important, is the Quest Book. Right-clicking this item will open up a new screen filled with the many quests that make up the pack. The first page will be information about Roguelike A-D 2, such as the changes to the dimensions, difficulty scaling, and much more. We recommend reading through each of these, then clicking the checkbox to receive a reward. Once you have completed this, there are many sub-sections of quests to be found in the left-hand quest menu.
Leveling System
As soon as you begin moving around, collecting items, or slaying mobs, new messages will immediately make themselves known. This is a leveling system that will grant you exp and levels based off of the task you perform. For example, the more you run and jump, your agility level will increase and improve your overall stats. It is highly recommended to spend some time increasing these stats to move faster or deal more damage.
Adventuring the World
Now that you have a grasp of your surroundings, you can begin exploring your world for various structures or villages. In a majority of cases, you can find a lamppost that will have directional signs. Following these will often yield a village or other important structure, so we advise following the path for your first day. As you explore you will find many new changes to your world, including:
Upgraded Villages
If you’re tired of the same old villages day in and day out, Roguelike A-D 2 finally brings these to the level. Villages now have entirely new house designs as well as new places to work. Additionally, there are new villager types as well, such as the forester or guard. Whether you take the loot for yourself or decide to set up a base of operations, villages are a great place to stop and rest.
Dangerous Dungeons
Now that you’ve experienced the adventures, it’s time to delve into the dungeons portion of this mod. Throughout the world there will be many dungeons and structures that can be raided. Each location is unique and always swarming with dangerous mobs that guard the loot. For example, The Foundry is a dungeon that lurks deep underground and becomes more difficult the lower you go. This lava-filled structure is home to blazes, skeletons, magma cubes, and many more, to be prepared for a fight.
Aside from real dungeons, many of the structures found in the world have their own challenges, including fighting monsters for standalone loot chests. While they may be considered easier, be prepared to fight a boss, which is usually an upgraded version of a normal creature. These bosses have significantly more health and deal more damage, but will grant you suitable rewards once slain.
New Biomes
With the addition of new villages, structures, and items, there are also many new biomes to explore in your world. While some of these are vanilla-like in design, others are entirely new.
Blossoming Fields
This beautiful field is filled to the brim with brightly colored flowers and cherry blossom trees. With its beauty and open space, there are many opportunities for building a house.
Rose Fields
As its name suggests, this biome is a large field covered in roses. While visibility may be somewhat low, building a base may provide a helpful vantage point.
Seasonal Forests
While the trees may differ, the seasonal forests feature an autumnal aesthetic with red, orange, and yellow trees. Be weary, however, as too much darkness may lead to dangerous mobs spawning.
Prairie
While simplistic, the prairie biome features plenty of grass and access to water. Similar to the rose fields, building a base with a farm here will provide an excellent vantage point and access to food.
Gameplay and Difficulty Scaling
While there are many structures and threats found in the world of Roguelike A-D 2, the real danger comes from the difficulty scaling in the world. After 3 in-game days, mobs will gain increased health and spawn with more equipment. This will increase even further depending on how many players are online. Additionally, the game will become overall more difficult after killing the Wither, entering the End, or killing the Ender Dragon.
These progression-based changes will increase exp points, but enemies will be stronger, spawn in larger groups, and adjust their behavior. As long as you build up your inventory and skills, you’ll be ready to face the dangers head-on.
Common Issues
In most cases, this issue occurs due to an incorrect setup on either the client or the server. First, see if you receive an error in-game or in the server console when joining, as this will provide a better idea of what might be occurring. When playing with a modpack, the pack must be installed on both the server and on each player’s computer. Ensure the pack is installed client-side and being launched before attempting to join to prevent issues. Alternatively, if you receive an Incompatible FML modded server warning, try to join anyway. This error will occasionally appear due to the number of mods, but will often work regardless.
If the server is crashing or perpetually starting up, there are a few potential causes for this. If this is the first time the server is starting, each of the modpack files need to be installed and the world must be generated, which can take a few minutes. If this does not work, ensure you generated a new world during the setup process, otherwise crashes may occur. Finally, if you recently added or removed any mods from the pack but want to keep the world, you may need to visit the server console and enter /fml confirm to force it to start.
