In February 2014, Mojang announced that Minecraft would have its very own movie! After 10 years, an entire decade, we finally see the first glimpse at it. The reactions…were mixed at best. The scenery is beautiful, yet the official teaser shows scenes that don’t look right. This is amplified by the real-life actors being portrayed in a Minecraft world. Will these issues be resolved? Will it cause a delay for its release?
We’ll answer these questions and summarize what we know about the Minecraft Movie!
The Minecraft Movie is set to release on April 4th, 2025. However, this could be delayed.
With 10 years in the making and likely setbacks, the Minecraft Movie is finally here…well for next year. What are the chances that it can be delayed? The answer depends on if the trailer’s feedback is taken into consideration. The like to dislike ratio for the teaser shows a staggering result – more people dislike the movie. This could make Warner Bros / Mojang decide to change certain scenes or the entire film’s appearance.
Around 20 seconds into the teaser trailer, millions of people got the first peek at a mob in the movie. This was a pink sheep and looked semi-realistic, especially with its teeth. Many viewers commented on social media that they were terrified by its design, with some being downright disgusted. Popular content creators in Minecraft also share the same sentiment. However, others aren’t too worried about it. It’s not only the animals and monsters that may look odd, but also the real-life actors inside of Minecraft.
There are many scenes from the trailer that make it appear as an “obvious greenscreen”. This breaks the immersion and feels off, according to the community’s reaction. It’s not all bad though, as the world’s visuals are stunning! Imagine a highly realistic texture pack with 4k rendering, that’s the Minecraft Movie.
It’s very possible that changes are coming to the Minecraft Movie, as most people who have watched the official teaser trailer don’t like it. A similar case happened with the Sonic Movie, where Sonic looked too realistic and creepy. This sparked the studios behind the film to completely change the character’s appearance. In the end, this helped the movie! We could see something like this for the Minecraft Movie.
It all depends on what Warner Bros and Mojang Studios decide on, as feedback isn’t entirely a basis to make changes. Many would argue that it should be, but again – it’s up to them. If we do see changes happen, such as the redesign of characters, it would heavily impact the release date.
Let’s assume that the movie doesn’t change and it releases as expected, then what? We can only guess, but millions of people would likely go and watch it – regardless of any prior concerns. The Minecraft Movie can see a successful launch or not, depending on how it turns out. In the case where changes are made and they’re suitable, it may significantly help the film’s success.
Until an official announcement or statement is made by Warner Bros / Mojang, we don’t entirely know.
At the time of writing this, there are too many unknowns about the Minecraft Movie. Whether changes are made or not, many questions remain unanswered. However, what we do know is that the community doesn’t like the official trailer teaser. Perhaps when more is released, that will change. As it stands, the Minecraft Movie has real-life people inside a blocky realistic world with strange looking mobs that break immersion – according to the millions raging about it.
The unknown is here, but when we reach closer to the release date…we will have answers!
