Halloween Mods

This list is in no particular order, but rather just a compilation of the best Halloween-themed or Halloween-adjacent mods that I could find.

Eyes in the Darkness – This genuinely spine-chilling mod introduces a single eerie creature into the game – The Eyes. These ominous beings materialize in areas of darkness, haunting caves and lurking outside during the night, patiently awaiting their unsuspecting prey. Once you catch their gaze, it initiates a chilling game of red light, green light; the moment you avert your eyes, they pounce. Remarkably, this mod creates an incredibly eerie ambiance despite its simplicity. Any encounter with The Eyes is undeniably unsettling. Compatible with Forge versions up to 1.20.1, Eyes in the Darkness proves to be the perfect minimalistic addition to intensify the fright factor in your gaming experience.

Eyes In The Darkness
Bewitchment

Bewitchment – Have you ever wanted to become the evil wicked witch, flying on your broomstick alongside your token black cat? Well, me neither, but this mod is still great anyway! Bewitchment offers pacts with powerful demons, the ability to become a vampire or werewolf, brew powerful potions, cast rituals, curse your enemies (or friends), and so much more. To get started, craft the Book of Shadows with a Book and a Mandrake Root, the seeds of which are dropped from grass. This is an extremely expansive mod with many high-quality assets and things to explore, so be warned!

I am particularly fond of all the different routes you can take as a witch. You can become a vampire or even a werewolf if you so choose! All of the associated blocks and items also work as great decorations!

True Darkness – If you’ve ever been out in the countryside, you’d probably know how truly dark the night is. Without light pollution, nighttime can be pitch black! And so this mod enables that. If you’d like the nights to be ever so frightening in your server, I suggest you check out this mod! With shifting lunar phases, the intensity of moonlight fluctuates, creating an especially chilling atmosphere during new moons. Furthermore, this mod renders dark caves nearly impossible to navigate. Unlike the typically limited visibility and dimmed screen, you’ll find yourself completely unable to spot the lurking monsters concealed in the darkness.

Reading over that last paragraph, I guess I’m not making much of a case to install this mod…But for the brave ones out there who want their server extra scary along with a little more of a challenge, this mod is a great addition!

True Darkness
Scape and Run

Scape and Run: Parasites – Probably the best thing we’ll get that’s closest to a zombie apocalypse-style mod, Scape and Run is great! This mod adds hostile parasite-themed mobs to your Minecraft game for you to fight. They can be dangerous, and scary and some of them can learn from their fights to evolve. They have no biome-specific spawn, so you can find them anywhere. The parasites don’t burn in daylight and they can attack other hostile mobs.

One of the coolest aspects to me is the horrifying design of these creatures and the fact that they evolve over time. It can be truly terrifying to see the infected versions of otherwise passive mobs become hostile after they’ve been infected. Yikes!

Whisper Woods – The Forest is now converted into a spooky experience full of danger and legend! Many new creatures inhabit the woods and stalk you as their prey, making for a horror-like experience. Whisperwoods is a spooky forest-themed mod that adds multiple creatures designed to make your gameplay experience not only spookier but more interesting overall.

The Hidebehind can be seen near trees in the night as it stalks silently. The Hurksgheist summons wisps and uses flame attacks to defeat its enemies, on top of its horrific appearance, that being of a skeletonized deer. Scary!

Whisper Woods
Sanity

Sanity – Based on the mechanic of the same name from The Forest, this mod adds a new gameplay feature. The players need to actively monitor and keep up with their sanity. For example, killing passive mobs that aren’t aggressive and eating bad food like rotten flesh will drop your sanity. Eating good foods and sleeping often will increase your sanity.

Having lower sanity will lead to consequences, such as ‘ghost zombies’ attacking you and swiftly disappearing afterward, light seekers made of smoke who assist the zombies by going after light sources nearby, and staring eyes. The staring eyes are actually harmless, but they simply just creep the heck out of you! Sort of like a reminder to build your sanity back up.
