Hunting Dimension Minecraft Mod

Overview
Trying to find suitable locations for a mob farm or the ideal area for simply finding mobs can be difficult in Vanilla Minecraft servers. This is amplified by all the world’s cave systems, as it’ll disrupt how many creatures spawn on the surface. Due to this, some players may decide to search for solutions to this situation. Fortunately, using modifications can solve this by adding new features to the server. One of these is known as Hunting Dimension, a Minecraft Forge 1.12.2 mod that implements a new portal to transport players in a new world optimized for mobs. Whether you’re wanting to build a large skeleton farm or enjoy a new environment, the opportunities are endless. In this new dimension, it’ll always be nighttime so hostile creatures spawn for you. Additionally, each mob has an increased amount of loot and exp to give you better gameplay. This mod is highly configurable and allows you to control almost every aspect of it. Setting this up to play with friends is quickly done on our panel, but may confuse newcomers. With this in mind, we’ve created this Apex Hosting guide to show you how to install and use the Hunting Dimension mod on your Minecraft server.
How to Download

Getting Started
After joining the server, players need to collect wood logs and arrows to prepare the new portal. These resources are widely available in the Overworld, so it shouldn’t take too long. Once enough are gathered, you can make the portal’s frame and begin your new adventure. However, it’s strongly advised to obtain equipment, building blocks, and torches. This is due to the dimension’s design, as it’s full of hostile mobs and is always dark. Besides this, we also suggest installing the JEI mod to easily view crafting recipes and additional information. Take any other preparations you need, then review the subsections to get started with this mod.
Building the Portal
The portal requires a new craftable block from the mod, conveniently called Hunting Dimension Frame. These need any type of 8x Wood Logs and 1x Arrow, providing you with 4x Frames. The process for obtaining these materials will not take much time, but players may have to slay a few skeletons for arrows.
Regardless of how you collected them, it’s encouraged to arm yourself with weapons, armor, tools, and building blocks as mentioned previously. Remember, there’ll be tons of monsters in a dark environment once you jump into the dimension.
Once you’ve crafted enough frames, start making the portal as you would normally to enter the Nether dimension. Whether you build this structure in a base or in the wilderness, make sure to keep track of where you create it. After setting it up, simply right-click
any block on the inside with a weapon to activate the portal. If this doesn’t entirely work, depending on the mod build used for the server, then use Flint and Steel instead.
When everything is completed, walk inside and sneak to enter the Hunting Dimension in your Minecraft world.
The New Dimension
When teleporting to this new world for the first time, you’ll be amazed at how unique it appears. Everything around you is dark with a greenish tint, among seeing the Plains biome everywhere. Additionally, mobs will be lurking all over the place with increased health and/or armor. Whether you stumble on a normal skeleton or a buffed zombie, be cautious when exploring this environment.
If you find yourself being attacked by hordes of hostile creatures, then jump and sneak into the portal to quickly escape. Otherwise, fight them and build a base to secure your location.
Increased Mob Drops
While slaying mobs, you’ll notice they drop more loot than normal. This is by design, as this entire dimension is optimized for farming mobs. It’ll be a quick way to collect Bones, Bows, Arrows, Gunpowder, Rotten Flesh, String, among all the other kinds of items. This is amplified if you’re using the Looting enchantment on your weapon(s), giving you a greatly increased amount of loot.
Additionally, every mob drops more experience orbs for you to save up. These features are configurable in the mod’s file, which we’ll discuss later.
Making Mob Farms
After gathering building materials, you’ll likely want to build a mob farm to easily obtain loot. These can have unique designs, as there are countless possible structures to create. This depends on your desired mob, as some farms are built for Creepers, Skeletons, Zombies, and others. Maximizing the amount of drops from creatures involves making this structure not too efficient since you’ll want to slay them yourself with the Looting ability.
In other words, they shouldn’t die after hitting the ground in the mob farm since that’ll only return the increased default items. Besides this, using hoppers to automatically store loot in chests is suggested.
Creeping Moss
If you’re wanting to change the Hunting Dimension’s biome, then using Creeping Moss will help you do that. This item gives you the ability to copy environments from the Overworld and transport them into the new world. Players need to collect any type of 8x Leaves and 1x Moss Stone to create 4x Creeping Moss.
After doing this, navigate to your desired biome and shift + right-click
while holding this item to copy it. Keep in mind that players need lots of these items if they want the best results.
When you’ve copied enough biomes on your Creeping Moss items, head back towards the Hunting Dimension portal and use it. Find your desired location for this process, then simply right-click
while holding the item where you want to paste the biome. It’s important to note that this only edits one chunk at a time, meaning you’ll need to do this a few times for larger areas.
Once you’ve done this, the environment will slowly change around you. For example, the Plains biome textures will shift towards the Swamp types if this is used during the process.
Configuration
Whether you’re wanting to tweak the default world generation of this new dimension or increase the amount of loot per mob drop, accessing the mod’s configuration is required. This is an excellent way to customize the gameplay experience, as you can even change the default color scheme for the world, among other aspects. When you’re ready, follow the instructions below to get this process started.
- Navigate towards the
FTP File Access
area and use your login credentials accordingly. - Afterward, enter the following pathway:
…/config/huntingdim
- Locate your desired file, then click the
Edit
option to the far right of it. - Proceed to make your changes and press
Save
at the top. - Return to the main panel and
Restart
the server to apply the edits.
Common Issues
In cases where you or others are unable to join the server, double check the IP Address:Port
or Subdomain used for the connection. If one character is incorrect or missing, then it’ll result in failure. This information can be verified on the main server panel, near the top. Once confirmed, try again to see if that works. However, the situation may persist if the launcher configuration of the impacted player isn’t set up properly. Make sure the Hunting Dimension file and its dependency modification, Bookshelf,, are stored in the mods directory. Additionally, ensure Forge 1.12.2
is successfully installed on the client so everything is supported. Afterward, reboot the launcher and join again to see if it’ll accept your connection. If nothing seems to be working, then this could mean an underlying issue is on the server.
Occasionally, the mod itself will not work properly on the server due to numerous reasons. For instance, incorrectly uploading the files on the FTP panel will result in failure and reject incoming modded connections. Double check you’ve successfully transferred this modification and its dependency to the mods directory, then restart the server
to try again. However, confirm you’re using the right Server Profile for this process if you’ve enabled this feature on the panel. This creates separate directories for your game files, meaning it’s possible to accidentally upload the files in the wrong location. If the situation persists, then ensure Forge 1.12.2
is selected in the Game File area of the main panel since this is required for mod compatibility.
An extremely common issue many players encounter is being kicked off the server after attempting to use the Hunting Dimension portal. This tends to mean the server or mod isn’t properly optimized, but shouldn’t be a long lasting problem. Solving this requires you to simply rejoin and you’ll be in the dimension. However, restarting the server
and/or re-entering the portal
may be required to resolve this situation. If nothing seems to be working, then consider requesting help from our support team to get more assistance.
