Dual Wield Minecraft Plugin

Overview

Dual wielding in Minecraft is an already beneficial feature Mojang added, as it gives players an extra inventory slot for food, shields, or blocks. However, this doesn’t allow you to mine materials or hit mobs from your left-hand, making it pointless to have equipment on it. Although, if you host a Paper or Bukkit server, then this can be solved by using the DualWield plugin. This makes your left-hand able to interact with the world, meaning you can mine or hit anything. There are additional settings to tailor its functionality to your liking, which is done through our user-friendly panel. With this in mind, let’s learn how to install and use the DualWield plugin on your Minecraft server in this Apex Hosting tutorial.

Server Installation

  1. Navigate to DualWield on Spigot and press Download Now.

  2. Save this file somewhere easily accessible on your computer.
  3. Head towards your Apex server panel and near the top left, click FTP File Access.

Note: If “DualWield” appears as green, the plugin is active and working on the server.

Getting Started

Minecraft DualWield Plugin

Upon joining your world with the plugin, hold a weapon or tool and press F on your keyboard. This will automatically equip the item to your left-hand slot, making it fully capable of interacting with the world’s environment. For instance, you can mine with a pickaxe and have a sword out for protection against zombies at the same time. It’s controlled by right and left-clicking with these tools in your hands. This feature is extremely useful, as it can prevent deadly situations, help you build structures, and make your survival experience more realistic. Besides this, there aren’t other features from the DualWield plugin. However, its configuration is highly customizable and allows server owners to take control over how dual wielding acts in-game.

Configuration

Our easy-to-use web editor allows you to quickly make changes to the plugin’s configuration. A popular edit to make is enabling left-hand uses for any interaction, as by default you wouldn’t be able to mine sand with a pickaxe. This is a brief example of the prevention, but another one is that swords can’t swing in the air. These scenarios, among other potential issues, can be solved by configuring DualWields to your liking, so follow along down below to get this started.

  1. Navigate towards the FTP File Access area from the server panel.
  2. Enter in the plugins directory, then click the DualWield folder.
    Minecraft Plugins Folder
  3. From here, press Edit on the far right of the config.yml file.

  4. Continue to make any changes you want in this area, then press Save at the top.

  5. Return to the main panel and Restart the server, or use /dualwield reload in-game to apply the changes.

Common Issues

Plugin Isn’t Loaded
In cases where DuelWield isn’t enabled or unable to load, the cause is likely from the type of server you’re using. For instance, default Minecraft cannot run plugins, so having Paper instead on the panel will resolve that. Otherwise, the issue can originate from using the wrong server profile. Make sure you’re installing the plugin into the correct one and location so it loads. Alternatively, the version of the plugin might be problematic on your server. Try downloading another build from DuelWield’s Version History page on Spigot, then use it in replacement of the latest one. These solutions give you the best odds to get the plugin working.

Cannot Dual Wield
Once the plugin becomes enabled, players should be able to dual wield without problems. However, sometimes it may appear broken due to the default settings. The most common issue is trying to break blocks with a pickaxe in your left-hand, as some blocks are blacklisted from being mined. If you’re experiencing these kinds of situations, then change DualWield’s config.yml file to our Recommended Settings found above. This will make it so you and everyone else can interact with anything from your left-hand. Otherwise, take a look at the file’s blacklist sections to remove blocked items. When the options are configured, you’ll be able to dual wield without further issues.
