Overview
While playing on your Vanilla Minecraft server, there are many different building designs and survival tactics to try out. These may include outdoor campsites or carrying shulker boxes for extra storage, but some players might want more possibilities. Fortunately, there’s a modification that implements new items, blocks, and tools for better gameplay. This is known as Campanion, allowing you to craft tents, backpacks, grappling hooks, and more. It’s a wonderful mod for players looking to make the best camping experience possible. Setting this up to play with friends is quickly done on our panel, as our system has a friendly user interface. However, newcomers to the modding scene may not fully understand this process. Due to this, we’ll show you how to install and use Campanion on your Minecraft server in this Apex Hosting guide.

Getting Started
Once you’ve joined the server, there are new materials and blocks to craft. With this in mind, we encourage you to install the JEI modification for learning all their recipes. Alternatively, reviewing the official wiki for this mod is an option for you to quickly understand how to craft them. Besides this, players can freely make normal or large sized tents, sleeping bags, backpacks, tools, lawn chairs, and cook some smores. However, you’ll want to gather lots of string, wool, wood planks, sticks, and iron ingots to have enough materials for these custom items. We’ll break down most of the features from Campanion in the subsections below, among other useful information to get you started with this modification on your Minecraft server.
Tents & Sleeping Bags
After collecting some basic resources, you can start to craft tents and sleeping bags. These require you to make Wool Wrap, Wooden Rod, and Rope to successfully make them. Although, the first material is only needed for sleeping bags. Once you’ve obtained one, it acts like a portable bed that may come in handy for your future adventures. As for tents, they come in two sizes: normal and large.
There can be many uses for them, such as added detail in your town or base. Players have a wide range of creativity at their disposal, leading to some fantastic creations.
Pouches & Backpacks
Backpacks play a critical role in camping, despite it being in Minecraft or real life. This mod allows you to make pouches from leather or tanned variants, plus string. If you’re wanting to make a tan backpack, then using a Leather Tanner is required to prepare the items. This process will take some time, as you need to wait for them to be treated. Afterward, you can right-click it to obtain the tanned piece of leather. Alternatively, you can use the normal types for the same crafting recipe.
There are three kinds of backpacks to choose from, Day Pack, Camping Pack, and Hiking Pack. The latter two require tanned pouches from previously treated leather, while the first doesn’t. When you’ve created any type of backpack, it’ll replace your chest armor in the inventory. Accessing it requires you to press B
on your keyboard, allowing you to place anything inside. The larger backpack you craft, the more items can be used for it. Be cautious though, as everything will drop after unequipping it.
Tools for Exploration
Instead of staying outdoors, players can go mining with specialized assisting tools. Whether you’re using flares to light up the cave or a grappling hook to quickly escape mobs, there are many opportunities with both of these items. Making the first one requires you to combine coal and paper, while the other needs iron ingots, sticks, rope, and wooden planks.
Sadly, there’s durability for a grappling hook so it can’t be used forever. Fortunately, players can enchant them with mending or unbreaking to strengthen it. These tools may save your life or simply be a convenient way to move around underground.
Throwable Spears
While having tools to help explore and make quick getaways are wonderful, having more weapons to inflict damage on your enemies is another great feature. Introducing throwable spears, requiring only a stick and mineral item like gold ingots. These spears can be enchanted with trident and durability abilities, making them powerful enough to slay zombies or skeletons. Unfortunately, they aren’t the best weapons against creepers or players since you’ll need to pick it up after throwing it.
Unique Food Items
There are plenty of food items to make and cherish in your Minecraft world, such as smores, MRE, and marshmallows. You can even roast them by a campfire to your liking, with three possible variations. This isn’t a major feature from Campanion, but a nice activity to try out. However, MREs are crafted by combining four different food items in the crafting table.
This essentially makes it the best source of nourishment out there, as it quickly satisfies your hunger.
Lawn Chairs
Any campsite without chairs isn’t entirely one at all, as players need a spot to sit down. Luckily, Campanion allows you to craft them, varying in different colors. Whether you want green, orange, yellow, red, or anything else, you have the ability to do that. All that’s required is some wool carpet, sticks, and wooden planks. If you’re unsatisfied with the color, then you can dye it in a crafting table instead of making a whole new one.
This is a wonderful addition to the modification, as there’s now a block to sit in and enjoy.
Making a Campsite
It’s time to get creative and build your campsite or any other outdoor base, which doesn’t need too many rare materials. There are other designs to implement too, such as wood logs scattered around or working stations inside large tents. The possibilities are endless and offer you countless opportunities to enjoy the world around you. Besides this, players can customize their campfire’s smoke by right-clicking it with color dyes. This will go away after some time, but lasts longer than cooking fish on it. There’s plenty of other features from Campanion that await your discovery, so have fun with friends exploring this modification.
Common Issues
In some cases, players may not be able to join the server due various reasons. The most common one to encounter is entering an invalid IP Address:Port or Subdomain, as this determines how they make the connection. This information can be verified on your main server panel, near the top. Besides this, not correctly installing the modification(s) on their Minecraft launcher may also cause the situation. Make sure everyone has Fabric or Forge activated with their downloaded files stored in the local mods directory. However, the problem may persist if there’s an underlying issue.
If you’ve installed Campanion on the server and launcher, yet it’s not working properly, then there could be a few reasons explaining the cause. For instance, if you’ve downloaded the Forge version while trying to use Fabric, it’ll result in failure. Double check you and others have installed everything correctly, especially ensuring the game versions match. This concept applies both on the server and launcher, making this extremely important. However, make sure you also installed any dependencies for the modification to function without further problems.
