While crafting a shield in your Minecraft world, you may be thinking to yourself what the best enchantments are for it. Well, it’s actually pretty simple. Compared to axes, weapons, and tools, there is an objectively best set of enchantments for Shields. If you didn’t know, enchanting is a wonderous way to improve your gameplay, as it allows you to be overpowered while using items. For example, having unbreaking on a shield causes durability to reduce slower, saving you resources on making new shields.
While enchanting shields isn’t exactly common, once you’ve completed enchanting everything else, there’s nothing left. And at high-level PvP it is a must! Now, let’s move on to creating the best shield enchantments in Minecraft.
This is a complete list of all Shield enchantments in Minecraft as of 1.19 in no particular order.
Mending – Uses xp to mend your tools, weapons and armor.
Unbreaking – Increases durability of item, in effect, by decreasing the chance of the tool, weapon, or armor taking durability damage when used.
There are three ways you can obtain these enchantments. (besides commands) You can enchant your Shield in an Enchanting Table or find an enchanted book. The Enchanting Table will be your best bet, as you can keep rolling until you get it, instead of just looting chests and villages, as the chances of finding a book or villager willing to trade the ideal enchantments are extremely low. If you do happen to find a book with the enchantment you want, just use an anvil to apply the book to the Shield.
In the case of Mending, you must find a Mending book or trade with a villager who offers the enchantment. Mending cannot be achieved through the Enchanting Table.
That’s everything! Shields have some pretty basic, standard enchantments that can be applied compared to other unique items like the Trident or Armor. Whether it be increasing the durability of your Shield or repairing durability through gaining experience, you can improve your shield. In any case, I hope you have a great week!
